Visitors are encouraged to bring their dogs to this 150-acre park and reserve in Vermont's scenic Northeast Kingdom, which offers hiking trails, dog sculptures and trout-filled ponds.
My wife and I stopped here on the advice of a friend while driving though Vermont and were not disappointed. We enjoyed the Stephen Huneck gallery and our dog enjoyed swimming, running and playing with other visiting dogs. The dog chapel was very moving, filled with notes left by visitors for departed pets. We left one of our own before leaving. Dog Mountain is a must-see for any dog-lover traveling in northern Vermont.

Built by renowned artist and founder of Dog Mountain, Stephen Huneck, this unique chapel, welcoming both parishioners and their dogs, is styled in the manner of a 19th-century village church in Vermont.
Not sure how I found out about the Dog Chapel, but decided we had to visit. As dog owners and lovers all our lives, we were so touched by the outpouring of love for dogs who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge. We have lost four absolutely wonderful companions that we added to the chapel. Every space with the exception of the pews and stained glass windows are covered with notes, photos, etc, of beloved dogs. Makes you cry, but we'll be going again in the near future with friends who have also been grieving for lost dogs. In addition to the chapel is the dog park where your dogs can play and run off leash with other dogs visiting. There are hiking paths, swimming holes, an agility course, and lots of room to run and play with new friends. The gift shop carries artwork of Stephen Huneck, the creator of the Dog Chapel, as well as many other gifty things, ie, Tshirts, mugs, cards, etc. All proceeds from the purchases go back into the support of this wonderful facility.

A museum that resembles a storybook castle offers a variety: vintage toys and weapons to fossils and antiques.
Great planetarium show. You should go just for that. It does cost extra beyond the museum ticket. The museum has a lot of taxidermied animals. It takes about an hour to go through the museum. Areas for kids to learn in and a cool butterfly greenhouse outside. Highly recommend you go if you are near it.

A public library with an art gallery.
My wife and I enjoyed the art museum. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. Ewa Seiler knows a detailed history of every painting in the place. We also learned a lot about the founder of Fairbanks Scales and were given a map for a walking tour of Saint Johnsbury.
A perfect spring day. Thanks!

In 2015, they open another segment of the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail. From thetrailhead in St. Johnsbury to the current end of the trail is 17 miles. The initial sections are surprisingly interesting, including the tunnel until I-91. Further out, the trail offers fantastic views of the surrounding mountains. During the mid-week, parking is easy. it probably gets crowded on weekends. If you're making a round-trip, I strongly suggest starting the eastern side. The trail slopes slowly upward the entire way. By going east-to-west and returning west-to-east, you'll be heading downhill when you're most tired. The eventual trail is planned to be 100 miles long. Only a few segments have been completed. It's still possible to ride on the unfinished segments but you'll need an off-road bike and beware of ticks in the tall grass.

The new Community Arts Center features two movie theaters, allowing Catamount Arts to present a regular schedule of acclaimed foreign-language and independent films; two state-of-the-art classrooms, which are used for art, computer and music education; an 80-seat performance space dedicated to regular performances by local artists; and a gallery showcasing local and area artists’ work.
This edifice, that used to be The Masonic Lodge, is the home of The Northeast Kingdom's performance coordinators. Because of their determination to make Saint Johnsbury a destination for people who value "the arts", a tremendous array of stars is presented throughout the year in a variety of venues throughout the area. We are blessed with talent in these mountains. Local professional and amateur musicians and actors perform here or in many of the local churches or reconfigured buildings up and down the river valleys. First Night on December 31st. should not be missed! Keep an eye on their website for events, and circle your calendar. You will be glad that you did.

In the state of Vermont, this hidden jewel of a golf club has no equal. Set in a glorious, undulating expanse of the Northeast Kingdom. This course has it all -- long par 5s, straightforward par 3s, as well as a slew of shady, challenging holes that don't exist anywhere else in the state. Sometimes you hit over a creek.. sometimes off a cliff; every hole is a delightful surprise.
Course is impeccably maintained by expert staff. Turf and base are professional grade.

Amazing! Especially when you think this was all started before people could imagine traveling more than a 100 miles! Here you have bird specimens galore! Too many hummingbirds to count! Most acquired around the turn of last century! What a gift to the town and what a gift it gives to those that visit. Yes, it's a throwback. But you know, sometimes that just makes you sigh in amazement. Cute town, historic museum. Perfect.
