This is a fascinating zoo where the walkways wander through trees and over cascades to look down at animals in natural, relaxed habitats. They had two polar bear cubs born at the end of November and December 11, 2018. The day we were there, the sun was out and it warmed up to the low 60s. One cub was out playing in a swimming hole while his mom lazed in the sun. The tiger that was awake came out of its cage and posed for us, while the other napped comfortably. It had snowed there the week before, so all of the animals still had on their winter coats. We've seen lots of musk oxen, buffalo, and so on -- but none quite as good-looking as these were. On the train ride, we saw black bears and grizzlies, a wolf, lots of deer, elk, and a few moose, as well as the musk oxen and buffalo. All of the animals visible on the train were wandering through the woods, grazing, or just enjoying the sunshine. At the restaurant, we saw porcupines napping up in the trees! I had no idea they were arboreal. This zoo has quite a bit of hiking up and down to see everything. But it's well worth the walking involved. It is also handicap-accessible, although it would be challenging. Truly a wonderful zoo!
