This state Park is a good spot for a picnic by the lake. Good location near interstate 70. If you are camping, there are about 100 sites with electricity. There is a shower house also.

Lots of stores to chose from. Lots of things to do. Variety of places to eat. It's not a big city mall, like Pittsburgh or Houston, but it is a mall. There's lots available

We were looking for a vineyard in the vicinity of Pittsburgh, PA, and found the Black Sheep Vineyard in the bucolic Ohio countryside near Adena, OH. As vineyards go, the vineyard is fairly small. Demonstrating a great deal of creativity, the owners transformed a former sheep barn into a warm and inviting place to spend an afternoon or night enjoying a variety of their wines. After sampling some of their wines, a patron can buy a snack tray (cheese, sausage and crackers, etc..) Outdoor seating is available. A $5.00 cover charge is required on Saturday evenings when local musicians perform various musical genres. The owner stated their grapes are picked during the months of August and September. Volunteer grape picking can be arranged with the owner.

Escape Zone is a fun, new type of entertainment. It is a real life adventure game designed for small groups of 2-10 people. Your goal is quite simple, work together as a team using the elements of the room to find clues and solve puzzles. Although the goal itself is simple, escaping the locked room in under 60 minutes will test your wits and prove to be challenging.
I've never done an escape room before and my company did one as a team building exercise and I've been hooked since. All three rooms at Escape Zone are well thought out and easy to find if coming from out of town. It makes you...MoreWe love fellow escape room addictss! We are hooked too. So glad you enjoyed your visit with us. The new room should be open in just a few weeks.

Vino di Piccin Winery & Tasting House is a family-owned winery located in Lansing, OH. Our family has been making wine for generations. The Piccin family winemaking tradition began many years ago in the Alpine mountains of Northern Italy. When our family, Luigi and Felicita Piccin, immigrated to the United States in the early 1990s they brought the family winemaking traditions from the Motherland with them. For generations since, we have enjoyed making wine to serve our loved ones. After generations of just sharing the wine with our family, the seven sons and daughters of Alfred "Fritz" Piccin decided to share the wonderful family traditions with everyone and opened Vino di Piccin Winery & Tasting House! Vino di Piccin Winery & Tasting House produces a variety of different wines made with local grapes from Ohio and high-quality grapes from California. Our top seller is the Fritz Red, a Concord sweet red wine that was our Grandfather's recipe. We also offer Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Old Vine Zinfandel, Vidal Blanc, and Malbec! Our modern and cozy tasting room, located in our Great-Grandmother's house, is the perfect spot to bring a date or your family and friends for a glass of wine. We also have an outdoor patio with a fire pit, and often host live music events on the weekends. If you don't have time to stop into our tasting room, you can pick up our wine at your local Riesbeck's! Come share and enjoy the tastes and aromas of our "labors of love!"
We visited the tasting room on Nov. 5th. We were traveling and stopped in Wheeling, WVA and found this on a search for wineries in the area. The tasting room is in Ohio but only a few miles from Wheeling.
My husband and I were greeted immediately, given a list of wines, then did a tasting. During our tasting, we were given the history of the winery by our server who was one of the owners, there are 7 siblings who run this place. The wine is very good, Italian style, of course and it was difficult to decide which one I liked the best.
We left to find another winery up the road a bit further and after staying there for 10 minutes or so, we turned around and came back. Our second visit was so nice. We got food, huge plates of bread, cheese, fruits, almonds and a prosciutto/basil mix which was one of the best things I have ever tasted!! ( I can't remember the name of the dish)
I wish this place was closer to our home! We would be there quite often. Just a wonderful experience and we plan on coming back to Wheeling just to go to the winery again. Thanks to all the brothers and sisters and their mother who made this visit special.

I have lived in the valley for 25 years and just found out about adventure creek. I am so glad I did!
Our group ranged from ages 11-49 and we all had a blast!
Prices are very reasonable for the length of time (3hours) you are out rope trekking and zip lining.

The building once called the sheriff's residence is now not only about former county sheriffs but encompasses all historical events and individuals of Belmont County. Inside the fully restored structure you will see photos, newspaper articles and artifacts what makes Belmont County great!
A special thanks to our tour guide Karen, who through her own personal and historical knowledge helped bring to life the county's past. There is no cost and highly recommend it for students of history whatever your age.

I have been to Wheeling Island several times. I do enjoy playing the dogs and gambling at the casino. It's good entertainment for a day or two. I was disappointed in several areas. First the track area, they eliminated the lower level where you could make bets and see the dogs before the next race. This made it more congested on the second and third level. Plus the 3rd level is for smokers, pretty nasty up there if you don't smoke. The staff seems short handed at the windows. Looks like they're replacing with machines to do your betting. Second, the casino seemed short staffed too. If you had a problem or needed a question answered it was almost impossible to find someone. You had to go to the service area and stand inline. It also seemed like most of the casino was filled with smoke from smokers. They had a small area for gambling for non-smokers. You would think in this day and age it would be the other way around. The casino usually has good entertainment in the way of bands scheduled. They do a good job with that. This weekend was Tom Petty tribute. We didn't eat anything there so I can't review the food. We spent probably 6-7 hours gambling in the casino. We didn't have any luck. I didn't see anyone around me doing much winning either. This day the machines were very stingy. This place is good fun if you can stand the smoke and going home broke....haha.

The road to statehood for West Virginia more or less began here, at a former customs house in downtown Wheeling.
When the Civil War was about to get started, those in the eastern part of Virginia were ready to leave the Union in order to keep slavery going in their part of the world. But some people in the western part of the state didn't particularly like that idea. Therefore, they called a meeting in his particular building (third floor). It authorized the counties to start the process to form a new state.
Based on the information passed along here, it sounds like the idea was more or less railroaded through by all concerned. Votes weren't taken in public, and that probably depressed the vote of the losing side. Once the idea was passed along to Washington, President Lincoln was rather anxious to figure out a way to get West Virginia into the union and weaken the South. There were all sorts of Constitutional issues involved, but they were overlooked under the circumstances. Thus, West Virginia became a new state.
The second floor has a Governor's office as well as a large collection of flags from the Civil War. The first floor has more displays to go with some post office boxes (one of many former uses of the building) and some souvenirs. A statue of Francis Pierpont, who is called "the father of West Virginia" because he led the initial "rebellion," is right outside. Next door has a mural of the June 20, 1861 meeting.
Admission is free, and the staff member there seemed quite happy to see us. Based on the guestbook, I'm not sure how much company she's had lately.
Wheeling is not exactly loaded with tourist attractions, as downtown has seen better days. I don't think a lot of people know the story about West Virginia's birth, and it's free. So this is worth a stop for history buffs.
