I spent 8 nights in Mahikan park in December 2017. The owners (Gilles and Marie) picked me up at the airport to go to Girardville (close to Saint Jean Lake), where Mahikan park is located. They have an extraordinary hospitality, being very friendly and professional. They are also both fond of animals, i.e.: - wildlife conservation; indeed, Gilles is implicated in wolves conservation. In Mahikan park, there are three packs of wolves: 2 composed of grey wolves and one of arctic wolves. - sled dogs. Indeed, when sled dogs become old, being unable to tract the sleds, Gilles keep them in one park and they are happy retired dogs. The wooden cottages are very spacious and well equipped. The beds are very comfortable. I stayed 6 nights in the main cottage, and 2 nights in the “Affut” cottage that has a direct view on the grey wolves park and arctic wolves park. At sunset, you can hear the wolves howling: it was a wonderful and unforgettable experience!!! The food is excellent; the menus are created by Marie who is also a perfect cook. I greatly appreciated to stay in Mahikan park. I made several activities: - I drove sled dogs (husky and malamute dogs) every day, and we ate in the wildlife. The contact with sled dogs was wonderful. The naturalist guide (Julien) was enthusiastic, and he was an excellent tracker, allowing us to see birds, paw prints of different animals in the snow, beaver dams… - I made (2 times) the contact activity with acrtic wolves, that have been taken to the wolf pack when they were puppies (before they opened their eyes) and fed by Gilles and Marie. It was both a fantastic and unique experience. Indeed, Gilles is enthusiastic, passionated and fascinating when he talks about wolves and wildlife in Quebec. Moreover he has exceptional level of knowledge on wolves and fauna. He knows all details you may wish to know on wolves animals' characteristics and behaviour Altogether, I HIGHLY recommend to stay in Mahikan park. I’ll come back.

Who knew you could find Alpacas in Canada? This was part of a great tour from our Cunard cruise. Unlike llamas, alpacas are gentle, friendly animals. I loved filming them up close, feeding them and watching a young one nurse. A terrific experience. I also bought some yarn for a Christmas gift.
