This is a beautiful place for a nice drive in nature. The road through the refuge is great and takes you past a variety of habitats. We saw a lot of herons and Great White egrets, as well as ducks, pelicans and turtles. My mother and I were both struck by the peace and quiet of the environment and the beauty of the wetlands. I hope to return next year to hike the trails.

Since 1979, the Castle Building has been preserved by the Historical Society of Saginaw County and is home to the award-winning Castle Museum of Saginaw County History. Within its walls, you will discover a celebration of the diversity and richness of the community's heritage through dynamic exhibits and programs. When you visit, you will learn about Saginaw's archaeological past, the community's evolution from trading center to the lumber capital of the world and its development and continuing history as a manufacturing and farming center.
A little gem in Saginaw. The exhibits covered the history of the area well in a cool looking building. I enjoyed learning about the lumber and auto industry in Saginaw. It was also good to see they were transparent about the Treaty of Saginaw and how the US gov basically reneged on paying the Chippewas their money for what is now 1/3 of the lower peninsula.

We went to see the Capital Steps at the Temple theater tonight. There was lots of police presence to make everyone fell safe. Police stopped traffic as we exited so we could cross the street safely. The theater has a liquor license and we had a drink with some popcorn. The Capital Steps were right on course, funny, great music and jokes that made you laugh and think. The Bancroft is 1 block away where they have eats and drinks. We really enjoyed out evening at the beautiful Temple Theater. The sound system is great and the seating was very comfortable. Enjoy.

The tea house was closed the day we visited as they were cleaning up from an event that was held over the weekend. One of the docents was kind enough to give us a brief history of the tea house and its construction. Would definitely stop back if in the area. Generally, daily tours available (call to make sure). Can have tea and dessert in the tea house. Monthly they hold a formal tea service (check schedule)
