The Saarland (German: das Saarland, pronounced [das ˈzaːɐ̯lant]; French: la Sarre [la saʁ]) is one of the sixteen states (or Bundesländer) of the Federal Republic of Germany. With its capital at Saarbrücken, it has an area of 2,570 km² and its population (as of 30 April 2012) is approximately 1,012,000. In terms of both area and population size – apart from the city-states of Berlin, Bremen and Hamburg – it is Germany's smallest state. The wealth of its coal deposits and their large-scale industrial exploitation, coupled with its location on the border between France and Germany, have given the Saarland a unique history in modern times.

Loved doing the treetop path and reaching the vantage point with the pictured view! It is a fairly simple path that took less than an hour. There are surrounding trails for further hiking. Loved it - highly recommend!

This was a one-of-a-kind experience in Merzig. Seeing differnet types of wolves in giant natrual enclosures and hearing comments from the two people taking care of them gives you a totally new perspective of these amazing creatures well worth to be protected and not hunted down!

The Völklinger Hütte World Heritage Site – one of the most exciting places in the world The Völklinger Hütte World Heritage Site is the first industrial monument from the golden age of industrialization to be included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The "Ludwigskirche" in Saarbruecken is a lutheran (protestant) church, built in 1775 by prince Ludwig of Nassau. It is one of the most important and prominent baroque churches in Germany, impressively situated amidst a place and surrounded by baroque city palaces. The church features a stunning white interior and a pulpit and organ in its centre. The church is open every Tuesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Groups are asked to arrange their visit through the congregational office.
This church come as a bit surprise...a Level of architecture you just wouldn't expect in a town like saarbruecken...it's really world class and one of the most beautiful protestant church buildings of this period-worldwide!

While returning to Sankt Wendel since being back in Germany, I was happy to be able to enter the Basilica (which has always been locked on weekends)- A magnificent peaceful spiritual church for one who is seeking to pray in total silence and distractions during this unknown pandemic.
