What to do and see in Rotorua, North Island: The Best Spas & Wellness

November 9, 2021 Carley Gatson

Bubbling mineral springs and pools promise maximum relaxation in Rotorua, on New Zealand's North Island. Therapeutic hot mud pools, dramatic geysers and a buried village are within easy reach of the city. What happens in the bubbling mud geysers of "Rotovegas"—the area at the top of Fenton Street—stays in Rotovegas. Once you've made the most of the mud, soar nearly 2,000 feet on the Skyline Gondola for views of Lake Rotorua, then zip back down to explore the lake by paddle steamer, fishing charter or WWII amphibious vehicle.

I have trained in ancient healing modalities from around the globe, Wiki and Rawiri’s Romi Romi workshop was one of my most profound learning experiences to date. Sharing wisdom of Maori philosophy and traditions to create an authentic experience that resonated with me at a basal level. This is something you need to experience first hand! I’d highly recommend this course for anyone with an interest in personal development and self discovery, therapists looking to broaden their skillset and develop an understanding and appreciation for the unique healing traditions of Aotearoa. I can’t thank Wiki enough for her warmth and hospitality, I look forward to returning to future workshops.

The spa has such a warm and relaxing atmosphere. The therapist was so friendly and passionate about her work. I had the Detoxifying Thermal Mud Wrap which was amazing! The body was wrapped in warm mud - such a velvety feel! Following the moisturizing treatment with the body butter, the skin felt nourished and smooth. I felt so refreshed and energized! This was a truly wonderful experience. Whilst the massage itself was one of the best I have had (and I have had them regularly for years), Tatiana is an intuitive body worker who provides a cultural and spiritual experience that takes her massage to another level. Highly recommended!

I walked past and noticed a sign that offered a free 5-10 minute massage to see what a thai massage was like, so I headed in and was lucky enough to get Sara. From the first minute I was hooked and quickly booked in a further half an hour (only because that's all the time I had) and it was the BEST MASSAGE I'VE EVER HAD! When I left I quickly made another appointment for my husband and I the following evening. I tried the hot stone massage and had Nicha (again it was amazing!!) my husband had Paa and went for the thai massage. He left saying the same.. BEST MASSAGE EVER!! Can't recommend this place enough, will definitely be back!!
