What to do and see in Romantic Road, Romantic Road: The Best Cultural Tours

February 26, 2022 Darwin Bolte

Named by American soldiers during the post-World War II occupation years, the Romantic Road is a 200-mile-plus section of one of Germany's most picturesque highways, stretching from Würzburg in Bavaria's north to Füssen near the Austrian border. Along the route are many favorite tourist towns and attractions, including Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Dinkelsbühl, Augsburg, and Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau Castles. Bike tours along the route are quite popular, and bus tours are also available.

Neuschwanstein Castle is wrapped in mystery and beauty. The former dream of the Wittlesbach king, Ludwig II, the castle is not only gorgeous but the perfect place to explore the mystery of Ludwig's untimely demise and begin to learn the Bavarian Beer Culture. After a 'skip the line' entrance into Neuschwanstein castle the your guide will bring you to the village of Murnau where you will visit the Griesbräu brewery for your tour of the brewery given by the brewmeister himself. An obscene amount of sample beers and beer schnapps await along with your very own "Brewery Certificate." Once the brewery tour is concluded we make our way to the Murnau train station for a short train ride back into the city of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Inclusions: Professional guide, Hotel pickup, Guaranteed to skip the long lines, Private tour, Alcoholic Beverages, Dinner, Bottled water, Our "Coronavirus Safety Standard of Travel" on all vehicles and guides

Wonderful tour by a knowledgeable guide before the castle tour! He had obviously done his research and was able to add more, and more historically accurate, details. Lots of "fun" facts, too (I had no idea what BMW stood for or why the logo looks looks like it does. I do now!). He knows all the best spots for pictures and the best times to get them in before the next tour groups arrive. Skipping the line for the castle tour tickets was a real plus. Highly recommend!

No words necessary for this one... I was for so long trying to visit this Castle and this citythat when I finally got there, I think I even cried ... it was super emotional for me, the only experience in the beautiful town. there is much to do there, apart from the obvious visit to the splendid castle of Neuschwanstein there is also another castle in front the Hohenschwangau Castle, a lake( Alpsee) where you can go cayaking, walk through the splendid forest, many restaurants, museum (Museum der bayerischen Konige), in short there are many things to entertain all the family. I know that I will repeat this adventure again I only stayed one day because I went by bus from Munich and had to return at the end of the afternoon

The trip was very panoramic. Our guide was very knowledgeable. The tour inside Neuschwanstein wasn't up to my expectations: crowded, not personalized, instructions sometimes hard to understand, and you barely see any of the castle. Linderhof is small, but very pretty.

BOOK FOR ONLY ONE PERSON! THE VIATOR TICKET WILL COVER 1-5 PEOPLE! Hello, I have been taking Tours to Neuschwanstein and the other places for 15 years, I actually lived in Oberammergau for 15 years I don´t think that there are many native speaking English Tour Guides with more experience of Oberammergau than myself, I lived there as a waiter and Bar Landlord for 15 years with 3 Passion Play Seasons. Unlike some Tour Guides I try to sort myth from legend, the Passion Play was not because Oberammergau was spared the horror of the Plague in 1633, quite the opposite, it was devastated. I hope to see you very soon! Regards, Chris Edwards LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO TAKE A BUS!

Inclusions: Air-conditioned vehicle, Free WIFI on board!, No food, but I supply chilled soft drinks and Bottled Water, not a lot of choice, but free!

Exclusions: The tickets to the Castle /entry fees are not included as I can´t know how many will take the Tour!, Meals are normally taken near the Castle to save time and make use of the time available before entering the Castle.

We were so happy that we decided to book the full day Castle Tours with Chris Edwards. He picked us up at our hotel and spent a full day showing us the area, followed by arranging tours to both Neuschwanstein and Linderhoff castles. He reserved our English speaking tour for both castles in advance, making our wait time during the busy summer season much quicker, and maximized our time. Chris’s knowledge of the area and its history provided a great introduction to not only the castles, but southern Germany and Austria. Chis was very personable, and when he learned of our interest in WWII, tailored our travel to show us some local buildings and homes that were important during that time. I highly recommend Taxi Chris Edwards Neuschwanstein Castle Tours if you are looking for personal service, flexibility to your needs, and an informative guide who has lived in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen area for over 30 years.

We did an excellent tour with our guide Paul. We are glad that we did it. He is an excellent knowledgeable guide, very caring and a lovely person. We visited St. Peter's Church, Platzl an der Orlandostrasse, Bayerische Staatsoper, U-Bahn to Odeonsplatz etc with him. He was very nice to us during our entire visit, patience as a guide should be, explaining history of each place along with some fun. If we ever visit Munich again, we shall hire Paul. Highly recommended.
