The Strand Theatre, located in downtown Rockland on the coast of Maine, has been entertaining audiences since 1923. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the theater underwent an extensive renovation in 2005, which included new sound and projection equipment, a fully restored interior and exterior, and a bright new marquee. In 2014, the theater became a non-profit organization and is now owned and operated by the Friends of the Strand Theatre. Today, the Strand Theatre is a multi-use venue offering the best of current first-run and independent films, live musical concerts and comedy, simulcasts, educational programs, conferences, and other special events on our stage and screen.
This almost 100-year-old theatre opened a few years after World War I ended! Today, it is refurbished, and shows films, as well as featuring singers and comedy acts—all at very reasonable prices. The renovated bathrooms are welcome and the concessions are very good. And the people that work there are friendly, too.

We stopped in the Sail Power and Steam Museum while walking on the Rockland Harbor Trail, and we highly recommend it to anyone in the Rockland area. It is a must-see if you are interested in the local history and maritime history, with a large and unique collection of items. I recommend using the guided DVD tour so that you can hear Captain Jim Sharp's stories and information about each room.

Celebrating Maine's Role in American Art, the Farnsworth Art Museum offers a nationally recognized collection of works from many of America's greatest artists. With 20,000 square feet of gallery space and over 15,000 works in the collection, there is always something new on view at the Farnsworth. The museum has one of the largest collections of works by sculptor Louise Nevelson. Its Wyeth Center features works of Andrew, N.C. and Jamie Wyeth. The Farnsworth's library is also housed in its Rockland, ME, campus. Two historic buildings, the Farnsworth Homestead and the Olson House, and Julia's Gallery for Young Artists complete the museum complex.
This museum has a very large collection of three generations of the Wyeth family and should be a got to for anyone visiting or staying in Rockland. There are other artists represented from the 1800's on and it is a good place to learn a bit about the history of the area. Tickets prices are $15, with a discount to $13 for seniors. Well worth it. It is open usually from 10 t0 5.

The Coastal Children’s Museum is dedicated to providing children ages 1-9 and their families the opportunity to explore, discover and learn through play about the natural world, the arts and sciences and the diversity of Maine’s coast. Children (and their parents!) are invited to explore our indoor sailboat, CedarWorks indoor climber, and General Store. The museum also hosts many species of tropical and Maine Coast sea life in our "Under the Sea Room" and our Gulf of Maine tank. We also have a daily craft at the art table, puppet theater, Tubes and Tracks, and a woodworking bench and wonderful puzzles and books all throughout the museum. You can also have your birthday party at the museum. Check out our website which has details and pictures of all our exhibits, past workshops, upcoming events and more.
