Made famous by marchioness of Sevigne’s correspondence, the chateau of Grignan is the largest Renaissance palace in South-East France. Its majestic silhouette towering above the village offers magnificent panoramic views of the Drome provencale. Nowadays, collections of paintings, fine furniture and precious fabrics fill its elegant rooms.
If you understand French then you should take the 90 min guided tour. Our guide was a young lady full of enthusiasm which made the story of this originally 10 century fortress fascinating and pushes one to follow up on the lives of those who lived there down through the ages and who had so much influence on French history. The Adhémar family owned the fort from 1239 and it is a descendant, François de Castellane-Ornano-Adhémar de Monteil de Grignan who after the death of his second wife married Françoise de Sévigné the daughter of the Marquise de Sévigné also known as Madame de Sévigné. The Chateau is magnificent and contains a large collection of tapestries and paintings. The rooms are extremely well explained by printed panels both in French and English. As non flash photography is allowed it is possible to document your visit thoroughly. Being situated on the highest point of the village the view is 360 degrees over the rolling countryside. The village which is built all around the Chateau must also be visited so count on having at least one full day.

One of the most beautiful places i have ever seen on earth, it is an absolutely must see for people who believe in their dreams and to teach us a good lesson of life. An ordinary man spent all his life long doing this wonderful fairy palace in honour of his beloved family.

We took this as an added tour on our cruise so we went via bus. The chateau is awesome, there used to be a moat in the front but it has been filled in. We went inside and met the host, also the owner. He was very welcoming, gave a history of the chateau and answered all questions. We had our own guide take us through, wish we could have had more time. You can tell it's a loving restoration. According to the owner all the frescoes on the walls had been covered up either with wood panels or plaster by a previous owner, which explained why , when they were uncovered, they were in such great condition. The period decor is beautiful with carved stone fireplaces and a beautiful peach and black diamond style marble floor. I did, when talking to the owner, ask why there were no smoke detectors, all my brothers were firefighters, so that jumped out at me. He didn't feel they were necessary. There was a table out near the end of the drive on the way out with postcards available on the honor system. I was surprised more people didn't purchase them to help with the restoration. Would love to go back.

The vineyard of Château de la Selve was created in 2002 by Benoit and Florence Chazallon. 6 different grapes varieties are planted on the estate, and the average age of the vines is 30 years old. Today we practice an organic and biodynamic viticulture on 40 hectares. The wineshop is opened yearly to taste our wines. We organise some visit to discover our domain and our methods of work.

Built in 1872, the Fort de Tamie is one of the 10 fortifications of the Albertville fortress. This former 16-hectare enclosed military structure overlooks the rocky spur of the Col de Tamie at an altitude of 907 meters. Classified as Pierres-forts de Savoie®, its ramparts conceal several casemates, galleries and underground rooms dug into the rock. Located in the Massif des Bauges Regional Natural Park, the Fort de Tamie opens onto a vast green and hilly setting where it is good to walk or just relax. The Tour du Fort path makes it possible to cross between the forests and the tunnels of the structure and to access the three belvederes (Mont-Blanc, Grand Arc and Tournette) offering a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains. At the heart of the ramparts, you will discover an Adventure Course in the trees (zip lines, via ferrata, walkways ...), a play park, a store of Savoyard products, a snack bar and a picnic area.
