Home to one of the world's most active volcanoes, snow-capped Piton de Fournaise, Reunion is a little known gem. This rocky, French-governed island off the coast of East Africa is easily explored by Les Cars Jaunes, yellow buses that link main settlements. The road into the mountains provides breathtaking scenery. Bike tours on rough back roads are an option for the brave and the extremely fit. Beyond the reach of cars, untamed village Cirque de Mafate shows the island's wildest side.

The Savanna distillery offers interesting tours of its industrial site in which you will learn everything you need to know about the rum making process. Obviously a visit to the rum distillery is not complete without a tasting and our guide was exceptionally passionate and knowledgeable about the many different rums she had us taste. We were impressed by the difference in flavours between the creol style and traditional rums and got a much clearer vision on it with this visit. If you love rum or if you don’t know it yet, a visit is a must!

« An encounter with an island, its population and a product »Recently set up in Reunion Island, the Saga du Rhum museum was officially opened in December 2008. Located at the heart of the island’s oldest family distillery, still in activity today, it is situated in St Pierre, close to the volcano and the ‘deep south’ of the island. The only museum dedicated to rum on the island
La saga du rhum est une visite intéressante, nb il faut faire la visite en étant accompagné du guide qui rend la chose beaucoup plus vivante et fun! I had a great time at la saga du rhum and I learnt what is the difference between rum traditional and rum agricol... I hardly recommand to do the visit with one of the guide who make the difference : fun and live experience!
