An amazing collection of buildings and artefacts showing the history of the local area, starting with the Archaeological Timber Museum, where the old village has been preserved in the mud and now being restored. In addition the masterpiece of artwork along 21 metres of one wall is the animated mural of life in the village as it was. The UNESCO Cathedral and Monastery are exquisite, well worth the addition to the world heritage list - the frescos are well worth the visit alone. Then food - in the Stable - borscht served in a hollowed out loaf of bread and the challenge is a glass (or two) of the horseradish vodka... a good end to a busy day.
