Karjala Park is a fundamentally new phenomenon in the Russia tourist market. It is a country hotel, tourist facilities and an adventure holiday center for the most discerning customers. It is a group of the high level professionals who are truly in love with Karelia and ready to share their love with every guest.
Unfortunately when we came here there was not enough snow for husky sledding but the great hospitality of the people more then made up for it. The kennel tour and the food was great. We also made a nice walk through the forest.

This visit was during August 2018. Prior to my visit we decided to get a better feel for the reserve. There are options on their website to book a pre-arranged tour which takes you into the area of the actual reserve rather than to the beautiful waterfall. Tourists are forbidden in this area unless on this tour, and the beauty is absolutely incredible. During our walk through the reserve, we visited a raised swamp with a lake in the center with lots of beautiful things like white moss, sundew plants and then walked through a lovely pine forest, in which we found tracks from a hazel grouse and I also spotted an eagle owl. The path then went through a lovely, dark fir forest to arrive at springs with iron formations all over the depths. There were beautiful mushrooms everywhere. Well-worth a visit!

Marble mine park Ruskeala is one of the most outstanding and wonderful places of Nothern Ladoga Lakeside as well as the only complex natural landmark in the mining history.
Ruskeala Mountain Park. A cultural heritage site, a historical monument, filled with groundwater - a former marble quarry. Many palaces in St. Petersburg are decorated with marble from this quarry.
