Nevada's "other" gambling and resort town, Reno is located in the western part of the state near the California border. What the city lacks in glitz or reputation it more than makes up for in attractions and amenities. There are first-rate hotels, golf courses and casinos to rival its southern counterpart and, also like Las Vegas, Reno has become a popular destination for families. Galena Creek Park offers nature trails that even young children can navigate, plus organized educational events for families.

Offering more than 224 vehicles on display, this museum contains one of the greatest car collections anywhere.
Amazing to see old autos in such great shape. This was the largest auto collection that I have seen. I saw a couple of "firsts" like a gold plated Delorean, Elvis owned Cadillac, cars used in movies.. Allow about 2 hours to walk thru and see it all, so many, and some are one of a kind, signed, or other special detail.

This is a great place to visit - kids will love it as well as adults. It is also a great charitable organization that rescues and cares for wildlife. They provide a safe haven for injured, abandoned and otherwise non-releasable wildlife. They have visiting hours starting at 10am except in the winter. There is a picnic area and a gift shop which sells snacks, drinks, and ice cream, as well as a variety of souvenirs and novelty items. We enjoyed our visits there a lot. It was fun watching them feeding the bears. We tried to go early before the larger animals took their daily naps. It is a nice outing for the whole family, as well as a worthy cause for our donations.

The geology and mining museum on campus since 1908. Located in the Mackay school of mines the Keck museum features minerals, mining artifacts, fossils, and many other interesting and unique objects of Nevada's geologic and cultural past.
I brought my 8 year old granddaughter here on a quiet weekday and we spent almost 2 hours exploring! With no one else there, we felt it was "our place" as we enjoyed the beautiful displays on 3 levels, including the "secret basement" gems! She especially enjoyed seeing the birthstones for each month. We also enjoyed opening all of the easy to slide drawers downstairs to discover fun documents. A totally cool place if you have curious intellectually curious kids or are a geek yourself. A bonus was a random guest appearance by head of the museum who was obviously amused to see us enjoying ourselves and was eager to answer questions my granddaughter posed to her. Can't wait to bring her older sisters next time!

Came here on vacation with family to keep busy as it was too cold to do outdoor activities - what a surprise to find this large, clean and fun bowling center in the bowels of a large hotel/casino! We got here about noon, and it wasn't crowded at all, although it was a weekday mind you. You start your journey out in one of the expansive parking lots, trek through gaming areas, past restaurants, more gaming areas and down to the shopping areas - after all that you're glad to play a sport where you HAVE to sit in between bowls! This alley has 50 lanes, is open 24/7 (!) and has a great scoring system. I especially like that if you have a junior bowler, you can program their turn in the game to raise and lower the gutter bumpers automatically, which is the first I've seen of this option anywhere! Neat! The older gentleman who helped us was very friendly and understanding, as we - like most of the folks there I would wager - were new to this alley. Shoes come with velcro cinctures (yay!) and there is a snack shop on sight, rather good sized; since we were having lunch after the games, we didn't try it but typical bowling alley menu (comfort finger foods!). The alley is clean, nicely lighted and very colorfully decorated. Even the balls are a variety of bright colors - and I found out when leaving (of course!), the balls are color coded for the weight size! So, find the weight of ball you prefer, and look at just those colored balls on the rack to check for finger fit. If only I knew . . . Overall, a bit pricier than home, but much nicer and well worth the diversion, especially for kids who can't gamble. The alley is close to the GSR arcade, kid's climbing structure, bumper cars, laser tag and digital golf driving range, so you can plan an afternoon of which bowling should be a main part!
