Redondo Beach

I used to think that Manhattan Beach was the be all, end all of the South Bay. But you know what? I’m thinking South Redondo Beach is the real hidden gem!! I love it down here! Soooo much more mellow. Wider streets. Less traffic and WAY FEWER tourists! Also the sweeping views, without a water treatment plant right next to you is really breathtaking to look at. I love the breezy, hot summer days and the foggy marine layer mornings. My favorite time of day is around happy hour when the DOLPHINS come out to play!! They are awesome and I will never tire of watching them! I love being just a few steps away from the ocean and the Riviera village. So walkable, I love it! South Redondo is truly so lovely!

Torrance State Beach

I had part of a Saturday free while doing other things in Los Angeles and wanted to get a quick and easy "beach fix." Torrance beach was perfect for this. Parking was close, plentiful and inexpensive ($7 for the whole day). Even on a beautiful Saturday (11:00-2:00) the beach was not crowded and mostly populated by families. It is an amazingly clean beach, with very little seaweed (also very few shells). Within a ten minute walk is Riviera Village with lots of options for lunch or a quick snack. It was a great way for me to get some strolling beach time in with little fuss.

Redondo Beach Pier

We visited the pier a few times while we were staying in the area. There are some shops and restaurants, and it's a great place to watch the sunset. There are sea lions that swim around the pier and you can hear them from almost a mile away:) Worth a visit if you are in the area!

Veterans Park

Veterans Park overlooks the Pacific Ocean, it's a 3 minute walk from the pier and a great location for family/kids to hang out on a sunny day! Feel free to ride your bike too as there are bike racks as well! Kids will enjoy swings/running around. It's also the location where they host events on Veterans Day & Memorial Day...for sure a great place to check out with the family :)

Whenever out of town guests ask where to go out to eat when visiting it can be hard to come up with a good list of spots that I can feel confident in recommending. Living in an area can make you biased about spots that hold a special memory, or that you've been able to try more than once. When I think about a place that has consistently impressed me time and time again, it's Bouzy Gastropub (Bouzys to us locals). From a bouzy brunch with bottomless mimosas (until 2 pm usually), to a date night dinner, the delicious food has always left me excited to come back again. On my most recent visit I had the Fried Chicken Salad & it was ah-mazing. At $19 it is a little pricey for a salad, but they don't skimp on the fried chicken. The pecans add a great sweetness to compliment the savory chicken. I even commented on the salad later to my husband while we were having drinks at another bar down the street (check back for that review soon). Located at the north end of the Riviera Village area of Redondo Beach, Bouzy Gastropub can be a great spot to kick off a walking "tour" of the quaint small-town-style gathering of shops, eateries, & bars. Just a few blocks west is the sparkling Pacific Ocean. You can take a long walk north or south and work off the amazing meal while watching beach goers, dogs being walked, and hear the crashing waves. Things to Note: - Metered street parking can be an issue, but I believe that if you're eating at the restaurant there is parking in the underground garage next to the restaurant (it's sometimes valet). - Live music on Thursdays - Oyster bar daily - NO brunch on Saturdays :( - It's hard to see the entrance when driving; it's just past the sidewalk herb garden (used for some of the menu items) & bushes north of Sacks on The Beach.
