This small shop is located close to the ferry in Rawene and opposite the BoatShed cafe. It is run by the couple who run the Labyrinth Woodworks and Puzzle Museum in Omapere. We understand that the plan is to focus on the Rawene shop in due course. The shop is run variously by the puzzle collector or his wife. We visited on 2 occasions and met both. It was an excellent experience on both occasions. When the husband was there he gave us a couple of puzzles to try. They defeated me though my wife did well, and he made them look easy! As well as a wide range of puzzles to try there is a small display or puzzles and a large selection of puzzles and games to purchase. Very well worth a visit.

Clendon House is the fascinating home of Captain James Reddy Clendon, ship owner and trader. Captain Clendon was in the thick of the earliest Maori and Pakeha interaction and was a witness to the Treaty of Waitangi. He was Chairman of New Zealand’s first bank, a member of the first legislative council and became the first United States Consul in New Zealand. A visit provides captivating insights into the wrangles of early colonial politics. Clendon House celebrates Jane, Clendon’s wife of Hokianga Maori descent. Left a widow in 1872, with little money, huge debts and eight children to raise, Jane took an interesting course of action to pay the debt, save the house and educate her children. The house remained in the possession of the Clendon family untill 1972 when it and the contents were purchased by Heritage New Zealand for visitors to relive a fascinating part of New Zealand history.
On a very wet Saturday, we visited Rawene and Clendon House. It was just us and Lindsay gave us a fantastic history lesson on the Clendon family - James Clendon in particular and his role in NZ's history at a pivotal time. Lindsay's presentation really brought it all alive for us. Great visit, thank you.

We visited this cafe and art gallery last week and it was just what we needed after a long trip. The girls serving in the cafe were so nice and willing to make up a salad for me that was not on the menu. I so appreciated this,it was lovely and fresh and absolutely delicious. Also served with a smile. Thank you.

The car ferry runs every half hour in the day time. Ferry terminals have no outlet or anything to buy tickets. Tickets could be purchased on the ferry. The ferry staff is very friendly with good customer service skills. Rangiora Ferry terminal has a long drop toilet located across the road. There is also a Food truck on road that sells coffee and bites like fries, hotdogs etc at a very nominal cost. Rawene Ferry terminal is pretty much well equipped with everything like restaurants, toilets etc.
