Ngarunui Beach

What a superb beach - whether you're up top looking at the splendid vista, down in the carpark checking out the surfers, or strolling along the miles of clean black sand. It was a lovely sunny day last week when we did it. Truly memorable. First time we've done it despite visiting Raglan a number of times. In future it will our first thing-to-do rather than our last!

Cool waterfall, which is easily viewable from several view points. The falls are really impressive from the first look out as the waterfall first emerges and is only a 10-min walk from the car park. It’s worth going down to the bottom if you can manage the steps (261 total).

Worth the windy gravel road to get there, parking can be busy due to being across the road from hiking track Beautiful, breathtaking sheer drop, one of the best lookouts I’ve been to

Ruapuke Beach

Reviewed By JamesM780 - Auckland, New Zealand

My lovely wife and I decided to do a little detour on our way back from the Fantail Falls. We were so glad we did as this lovely beach is just breath taking. There's a few hundred metre walk from the carpark over the sand dunes to some of the best and most consistent set of surf breaks I've ever seen. No wonder people rave about the surf at Raglan. Well worth going for a swim, a surf or a walk. Really peaceful and almost pristine. Thoroughly recommended.

Mount Karioi summit tracks

Reviewed By Extraordinary687206 - Hamilton, New Zealand

First thing going up Karioi is to take some water to drink and a jacket as it can get cold and windy at times depending on weather. A lot of leg work here and a reasonable level of fitness is required. There is some fairly extensive stepping in this climb. You will be using both hands and feet to climb as you pull yourself up here and there. The odd chain and ladder to climb as well. All this makes it challenging but fun. At times you will be close to the edges but in a safe way. If its a windy day hold onto your hat or you'll lose it to the wind as mine flew over the side at great knots at the top. A tip here is to wear some gloves up to grab onto things. i have used hiking sticks but found them more of a nuisance. Depends on what makes you tick. Wear some good solid tramping boots or trail shoes. Be prepared for Mud on the track sometimes over a foot deep in places. If your careful you can navigate around this. Have fun and enjoy this scenic tramp.

A great spot for a browse! There’s an art gallery, beautiful Tony Sly pottery and other homewares, leather shop as well as coffee and great fish and chips or takeaway fresh fish to cook at home. Of course if you enjoy fishing, it’s a popular location for that!

Jet is a collective which means you get to meet the artists, as they take turns running the shop. Always friendly and willing to help. This place is good for presents - either for others or for yourself - photography, cards, stone jewellery, massage bars (very popular), tie-tied endless scarves, pottery wall-plaques, coasters, a couple of local kids' story books.
