France has many excellent provincial art galleries - and this is one of the best. Permanent collection includes Pont Aven artists, Breton artists from 19th century and Sevres porcelain. The current exhibition of Dufy has a focus on his textile printing works (woodcuts on silk) - very enjoyable, even if you're not a fan of his paintings English commentary on some works via QR code on your smartphone - bring your headset Highly recommended

Musee de la Faience de Quimper

Only a few rare cities’ names are linked to an art or a passion. Quimper has the luck to be one of them. Associated with earthenware for over 300 years, today Quimper has a museum worthy of this great artisan and industrial tradition. The earthenware museum will give you the opportunity of an enriching trip through the centuries. The exhibition of 500 pieces exposed, some of which are unique, is regularly renewed, thanks to a collection of 2000 works whether religious, historical, scenes of daily life or abstract drawings, all fixed in this noble and beautiful material. Your visit will lead you to understand the entire manufacturing process, the different methods and stages of production. Then, you will dive into the birth and evolution of the Quimper style but also in the history of the different factories that monopolized the activity of Locmaria district. This tour will take you between Marseille, Nevers, Rouen to the bank of Odet.

I don't like ceramics exactly. But I do like history. And it seems ceramics has been there every step of the way. And is one of the few artifacts that survives over time. This museum in Quimper was a nice surprise, offering detailed history of the faience world in France along with a step-by-step rundown on how ceramics are made. And of course, at the end, a well-stocked museum shop. The only downsides: this stuff is expensive, so be prepared. And our particular guide was not always forthcoming with information. But was ready to answer specific questions.
