What to do and see in Putrajaya, Wilayah Persekutuan: The Best Tours

April 13, 2022 Kiesha Cripe

Putrajaya, officially the Federal Territory of Putrajaya, is a planned city and the federal administrative centre of Malaysia. The seat of government was shifted in 1999 from Kuala Lumpur to Putrajaya because of overcrowding and congestion in the former. Kuala Lumpur remains Malaysia's national capital and is the seat of the King, the Parliament, and all the foreign embassies, and the country's commercial and financial centre. Putrajaya was the idea of former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad. It became Malaysia's third Federal Territory, after Kuala Lumpur and Labuan, in 2001.

As we reached Kuala Langat, our first stop will be theJugra Hill. Situated 146 meter above sea, the peak of the hill offers panoramic view of its rich flora & fauna overlooking the Straits of Malacca. Then we continue to drive around the traditional Malay village as we make a pit stop at the local business selling snacks & delicacies made from local fruits, nuts & veg easily found in the area. We could also stop for a quick 'Cendol' break and perhaps some 'rojak' as well if you like! A different route that we use to get back to KL will allow us to visit Malaysia's administrative capital city of Putrajaya. With me as your local expert, I will bring you to a few secret spots in the city to enjoy a breathtaking view. We can spend some time here for photo opportunities before we head back to KL.

Inclusions: Air-conditioned vehicle

Exclusions: But we will stop for lunch along the way.

Thank you to Din and all of the people at Gahara for a truly amazing experience! Not only did my son and I get to make traditional batik, but we also got to see many museums, experience local food (which is so delicious and can only be had in Kelantan!), and explored local art. Having Din with us was game-changing as he not only served as a translator, but an amazing guide and friend. If we had not been there with him, we would have missed out on so much of the experience. Staying in the former family home of the founder of Gahara was amazing. We were surrounded by beautiful textiles and the energy of this thriving textile house. It was fun to visit other batik houses here, and we even met a very old weaver, working her loom, making a beautiful songket. This was a much needed respite from lockdown in KL, and since I am a textile lover, it was the perfect antidote! AND....I ate the best food here in Kelantan that I have had in Malaysia, thanks to Din and his friends. Highly recommend this tour. It is a life-changer!

This was part of an organised trip. If you can only park near the gate it is a 1.5km walk. The rangers call the orangatan after 9 so you can see them feeding at 10. We where very lucky to see one, however it is pot luck. Also if they spot one you need to move to the place quickly. It is not for the infirm or probables with walking. I would also recommend mosquito replant and long trousers with trainers. They are leeches and ticks in certain areas. It is worth the trip.
