PUNTA LAGUNA is a Natural Reserve right at 40 minutes from the Riviera Maya, at 20 min north from Coba Ruins. The Reserve is owned and managed by the Mayan People of the Community
Punta Laguna Spider Monkey Reserve is amazing. Knowing how difficult it is to see creatures in the jungle I had advised the kids that we probably wouldn't see anything. But, our guide Julio was AMAZING - not only did he find us a troop of Spider Monkeys with a baby that was so close that our daughter could have touched it but he also located Howler Monkeys in the trees as well. Then, to his and our amazement, we heard a rustle in the undergrowth and when we investigated discovered a Jesus-Christ lizard had been taken down by a snake who was holding onto it. Julio the guide answered all of the kids' questions (and believe us they had many) and explained how his grandfather had helped set up the reserve many years before. This was so well run, and for those that are more adventurous the zip line and the abseil into the cenote looked a lot of fun, but due to time constraints, we didn't have enough time to explore. To see jungle animals in the wild this is one of the best places we visited in Mexico and I can't recommend it enough.
