The church has been converted to a museum today with a small admission fee, but the interior is splendid with many paintings tied to John the Baptist that are quite good--and several are from 16th century or so. It is worth a small detour to see this village, which when we visited, was filled with students heading to or from school, and the town square a nice place for lunch. It appears that this church was unfinished (as many churches in this region of Peru), but what remains is quite delightful.
