The Singapore cityscape looks like it was ripped from the pages of a science fiction comic book. If you’re hungry for a true Singapore experience, sample the myriad street foods or take a cultural cooking class. The Botanic Gardens and the Gardens By the Bay offer a slice of horticultural heaven, and the observation deck of the Sands SkyPark makes you feel like you’re high above the clouds. The banks and walkways along the Singapore River bustle with local activity.

Chanced upon the SGVenusFlyTrap community online and was able to visit their community garden, operated by Darren Ng and his family. The community garden is located behind the Punggol Neighborhood Police Center, and can bee seen from the carpark. The garden is above 10x12m in size, but houses a large variety of carnivorous plants, including the familiar Venus Fly Traps and Pitcher Plants. They also have a collection of air plants as well. Darren was quite informative and shared a number of tips, and helped me build a terrarium with some choice carnivorous plants. Maintenance has been rather easy as the grow light is set on a separately bought mechanical timer and provides the required light, while I need only ensure the water level is kept within acceptable limits daily. Feeding is optional, but brings hours of fun and relaxation.
