We are an a cultural institution, whose primary fundamentals are highlighting the figure of our National Hero General Gregorio Luperon. Besides being a compendium of the lifestyle of the 19th century. We are a historic cultural center a place of education and entertainment, provided that such spaces are necessary for cultural and social life of all people.
This was a well done museum tour walk thru with guide (for free- but tip at the end). Our guide was very nice and spoke well in English. She had only been working there a few months but seemed interested in what she was teaching us. The exhbits are small and it is a quick tour but completely important when traveling in the DR to understand the important of General Luperon. It was clean, air conditioned, and inexpensive. Do it!

Our guide took us to the jewelry factory. We watched 4 men make jewelry from start to finish. I purchased a bracelet with amber and larimar set in sterling silver. Their craftsmanship is on point.

Macorix House of Rum offers for lovers of rum a quick and enriching experience, where besides being able to taste the liquor, you will be able to know the history and evolution of the brand. Macorix House of Rum is the place to visit in your next visit to Puerto Plata
We decided to take a taxi guided tour off the cruise and were so happy we did. Our guide brought us to the famous rum factory where we were able to take a tour with a group. We started in their liquor store while we waited to join others for the tour. They had popsicles for $1 w/o liquor and $2 with. Yes!!! We then went for a tour of the factory where we learned the history of rum and got to try their famous island rum. It was so smooth you didn't need a chaser. Their prices are amazing and we got to learn more about the island and its heritage.

This two-story Victorian museum holds the largest collection of amber in the world.
We were allowed entry for free as the bottom gift shop and outside was under renovation. The tour guide was great and I would like to go back when I return to the area. It is a good idea if you are looking for real amber to buy and see some really great displays of amber
