Crandall Historical Printing Museum

This museum illustrates the history of moveable type and contains the United State's only working replica of the printing press made by Johannes Gutenberg in the 1400s. We show how Gutenberg printed the Bible, how Ben Franklin printed in the 1700's, how the Book of Mormon was printed and bound in the 1800's and how the Deseret News was printed in the mid to late 1800's. We also show the Linotype machine of the early 1900's. All our presses have moveable type. We also have items for sale. We are a non-profit museum. Charge is $5 each.

The Heist was a lot of fun. Plenty of challenging puzzles with good diversity. And more than one red herring along the way. We just made it out with 1 second to spare!

We adjust our rooms for families, group dates, corporate groups, friends, students; those who love an immersive story or those who are only here to crush the puzzles and top the leaderboards. All are welcome, and all will have an unparalleled experience. We look forward to your visit!

Our family has recently been watching the series Psych through VidAngel, and our kids loved this opportunity to play Shawn Spencer as we observed clues throughout the room and began to piece them together enough to escape in the allotted hour. At first we didn't seem to be getting anywhere with the bits of information we collected, which made it all the more exciting when we began unlocking more and more clues that eventually led us to solve the mystery! We felt we had really conquered a great challenge. We did the CSI room with the six of us - 4 kids ages 7-16, 2 adults. One thing we like about Escape Key rooms is that there are lots of padlocks to open, with either keys or codes, so everyone gets to take a turn unlocking one. The use of blacklight flashlights is a great way to involve even the youngest in the family. Encouraging the use of our phones was a first for us, in an escape room situation, and we thought the inclusion of technology to help us gain the needed information was especially clever. Thanks for another great time, Escape Key!

Ever since I was twelve I have loved shapping hot steel with hammer and flame. Sharing that love with others, seeing the excitement in their eyes, brings the best feelings.

Brigham Young University

Despite not being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I knew I had to make a trip to Brigham Young University while in Utah because of my deep, abiding interest in Mormon culture (and profound love of Provo's Most Eligible). Here are my thoughts: - My husband and I scheduled a golf cart tour which we highly recommend, particularly because we were visiting on a 96-degree July day. Our student guide was clearly mystified as to why two Boston-based non-members were touring the campus, but was very gracious and knowledgeable. - If you're visiting BYU primarily as a tourist site, I'd suggest checking out the amazing free art museum, enjoying some delicious ice cream at the Creamery, and going bowling at the student center. I have to say, I also found the BYU Store absolutely mesmerizing. Where else can you find missionary action figures and Brick'Em Young temple building sets? - My advice to any non-member visitors: please be mindful about what you wear while on the campus. Out of consideration to Mormon modesty standards, I made a point of wearing a blouse with capped sleeves and long pants, but if I could go back in time, I would without a doubt wear a dress or skirt. Perhaps this is less true during the academic year when there are more students on campus, but when I visited in the summertime, I didn't observe a single woman in pants the entire day. I definitely stuck out like a sore thumb. A visit to BYU would not be everyone's cup of tea. However, I found this to be one of the most memorable days of my trip to Utah!

Our family enjoyed our visit of this museum during spring break. We attended the afternoon live animal show, which was informative and well done. The incredible collection of taxidermy animals is purely fascinating. The museum is well maintained and meticulously clean. Visitor parking is free. You just park in the adjacent parking lot, and go in to the front desk to ask for a complimentary parking permit. We would definitely recommend this museum to all families who are visiting the Provo area.

I miss the plethora of museums that I used to be able to visit when I lived in New York. BYU Museum of Art helps to nicely fill that gap. I have enjoyed every visit I have made there! And, am especially thankful for the special events they have provided to all of us (such as "Beauty and Belief" or Monet exhibits, etc.)...and for free! Many thanks to BYU for offering so many amazing artists to us - that we might see the world and its cultures in new and enlightened ways!
