Biscay (Basque: Bizkaia; Spanish: Vizcaya) is a province of Spain located just south of the Bay of Biscay. The name also refers to a historical territory of the Basque Country, heir of the ancient Lordship of Biscay. Its capital city is Bilbao. It is one of the most prosperous and important provinces of Spain as a result of the massive industrialization in the last years of the 19th century and first half of the 20th century. Since the deep deindustrialization of the 1970s, the economy has come to rely more on the services sector.

This is a beautiful church in Portugalete's old town, which is in itself lovely. The church features a very impressive wood-carved altarpiece and it's well worth a visit.

This is such a beautiful place. The views are amazing. A must do walk! The old church has a gate where one can throw coins into the collection basket.

Ermita de San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is a little church located on a rock in the sea, close to the coast, in Bizkaia Region, in Basque Country. Really, it is a mystical place, where some scenes of Game of Thrones were filmed. The views of the place are wonderful and you can go here from stone stairs to the top of the rock. In fact, it was a great little excursion. I recommend you go before 9a.m. and not in weekend, because it is empty of people. Also the surroundings are very nice: the sea, the rocks, the coast and mountains. Top in our travel in Basque Country. (See also Playa de Bakio, Txakolingunea, Doniene Gorrondona Txakolina and Urzabal)

We were in Bilbao as our daughter finished her semester abroad at University of Deusto, so we saw all the sights and fell in love with the city. Since we were there at Christmas we attended mass at Basilica of Begoña, which was. 5 minute walk from our Air BnB. While we didn’t understand the service, being Catholics we were able to follow along and enjoy the beauty of the building.

A very old, fairly small, but very pretty church in the old town of Bilbao. They have a brief but informative audio guide and some charming artwork.
