This impressive castle built in the 14th century houses a fine art gallery.
This castle is one of the gems in the city of Verona. It is full of wonderful paintings from the medieval period to the 1700s magnificently displayed! You should not miss the following masterpieces: 1. Peter Paul Rubens’ “Portrait of a Lady” made for the Duke of Mantova 2. Pisanello’s “Madonna of the Quail” (this Madonna has the most beautiful face and hair in the history of Italian art!) 3. Mantegna’s “Holy Family.” Of course to see his masterpiece (the Correr altarpiece) you should walk to the nearby Basilica of San Zeno 4. Luca Giordano’s “Diana & Endimione” and “Bacchus e Ariadne” 5. Tiepolo’s “Heliodorus” 6. And finally the monumental equestrian statue of the smiling ruler of Verona Cangrande from 1300s. Some of these paintings were stolen in 2016 then found in Ucraine, and luckily returned intact to the Castelvecchio Museum. The castle also offers great views of the Adige river and the beautiful Scaliger Bridge! The bridge was bombed during WWII but then rebuilt. It is an amazing bridge. Visit the castle and its collection. You won’t regret!

For a very appropriate entrance fee (6e) you see a very well thought out presentation of history and natural habitat. Together with a beautiful view and a pleasant town, this is a great destination to see.

It is said that historical residences have a soul, but there are castles which are so old that their basis have been changed into roots, and their charm has been unchanged in the course of time. In the heart of the Verona plain, between the cities of Verona, Vicenza, Padova and Rovigo, there is an authentic castle of the fourteenth century: it is the Relais Castello Bevilacqua. A magic place suspended between the past and the present, a historical residence that hosts events and enchanting holidays. Let you be captivated by emotion, let you be seduced by tradition. In the heart of Veneto you are the guest of history, you are the guest of Relais Castello Bevilacqua.
During our stay at ‘The Bevilacqua’, my partner & I occupied Junior Suite Royal Francesco II and we felt VERY fancy. The suite shares its name with the eldest son of Guglielmo Bevilacqua who was the castle’s first owner (back in the 1300s). Amazing four-poster bed! As well as frescoed walls and renaissance period furnishings, Francesco II has all the mod cons; WiFi, TV, aircon, etc. Our room was so comfy that we massively overslept and almost missed breakfast the next morning, oops. To make stays even more unique, Castello Bevilacqua can organise various optional activities. Some of the experiences on offer are an escape room, murder mystery party, private wine tasting or vintage car hire. We only stayed one night, but if we’d had longer, I reckon the escape room would have been fun. After seeing the well-stocked wine cellar, I also wish we’d made time for a tasting *sigh. Hopefully we’ll make our way back to Bevilacqua someday. We had dinner at Ristorante All’Antica Ala in Castello Bevilacqua. Part of the fun of eating in a medieval castle is being surrounded by awesome antiquities like armour and weaponry. Our evening meal began with an antipasto selection of cold cuts and pickled veg. For main course, I had turbot fillet with pistachio crumbs and toasted almonds, my partner had the duck. We washed everything down with a bottle of excellent Valpolicella and finished with an epic cheeseboard. SO. GOOD. Overall great experience! Bevilacqua is only 1hr from Verona and 10 mins from Montagnana, so if you're planning to visit either of those places Castello Bevilacqua is a perfect hotel option.

From the top of the hill, the Scaliger Castle dominates Valeggio and the Mincio Valley with its unchanged and fascinating Medieval impressiveness. The ancient part of the castle was almost completely destroyed by the earthquake of 1117; only the Round Tower remained undamaged, and it is dated back to the 10th century. In 1285, the Lords of Verona, called Scaligeri, rebuilt and fortified the Castle of Valeggio sul Mincio, which was located in a strategic place for the defense of their borders. The rest of the castle was constructed in the 14th century. The castle had originally three bridges, but now there’s only one. It is a typical example of medieval fortifications. In the square of the Rocca, between the towers, you can enjoy a beautiful panorama. In the summer there are some entertainment events and open-air cinema. OPENING HOURS OF THE TOWERS The towers can be visited from march to october, on saturdays, sundays and holidays from 10.00 to 12.30 a.m. and from 03.30 to 06.00
