Wonderful park in the corner of the island, cool area where actually real local people live and where you can walk your dogs, walk around and enjoy some peace and quiet.

An amazing tour of this palace. The Countess was so warm and friendly. She was very down to earth and a humble lady. I highly recommend this tour.

Venice has very limited room for gardens - and all the more striking is this one: Giardino mistico dei Carmelitani Scalzi. Practically next to to the railway station (to your left when you leave VSL) it is a garden focussed on produce such as wines, vegetables and herbs (you can also buy some if in season and they are available in the giftshop that has normal opening hours). The layout and the planting are inspired by the Carmelite thinking and understanding of life. As such, the visit is also to be seen as a spiritual experience in reference to the life of Teresa of Avila - not mere sightseeing. Nonetheless, the garden's position and history is an eye-opening entry into Venice too and for that alone worth a visit. A visit combines the garden with a tour through the Church of St Mary of Nazareth. It is by appointment only ([email protected]) - volunteer guides have been available sind 2016; both together last between 1 and 1.5 hours. The voluntary entry fee (5 Euros were suggested in August 2017) goes to the Carmelite Mission Society. The garden tour was particularly interesting - so much that one would easily overlook without the information. Away from the crowds this is one of Venice's lesser known locations, but it is very peaceful and enjoyable and perhaps just as representative of Venice as other, more popular destinations.
