Royal Canal Dublin

Reviewed By porterIreland - Dublin, Ireland

We had a gorgeous walk along the Royal Canal today, starting by taking the train from Dublin to Maynooth and then walking back from Maynooth along the Royal Canal as far as Leixlip from where we took the train back to Dublin. We were lucky enough to come across a Crane on the canal bank and we were able to observe in close proximity. The weather was very favourable. It’s possible to walk all the way to Dublin and also to head the other way.

Grand Canal

Got lucky with the awesome weather walking the canal route today. Covered about 5.4kms and loved every but of it. Passed by the canal boat restaraunt as well but they were anchored. Plenty of choices for food and a pint along the way have a lovely walk around. May the luck of the Irish be with you and hope you get GREAT weather too.

Rye River

Reviewed By GearoidOO - Athlone, Ireland

We found ourselves with time on our hands in Leixlip waiting to check in to the wonderful Becketts Hotel. To put in time we went for a walk along the Rye River, quite a spectacular developed walkway. When we got back to the village we popped in to the Court Yard Hotel for lunch. The lunch was a wee bit undistinguished (a vegetarian salad and a Caesar salad, both a bit unrefined) but the court yard setting was perfect and more than made up for the food. We found shelter from the blazing sun and good hospitality - they had Peroni beer on tap which was just what the doctor ordered. The girl who served us was very nice and very prfessional. By the time we had lunch we felt refreshed and ready to take on the world again. What a lovely village and the meeting of the Rivers Rye and Liffey is quite a magical spot.

Our Ladys Island Lake

Reviewed By CBofDublin - Dublin, Ireland

This is a special place. A lagoon lake with a strong tradition of sacred worship predating the arrival of Christianity to Ireland. You can take a lovely walk around the island and there is some wonderful bird watching to be enjoyed.
