The Palacio del Infantado is easily reachable with the C2 from Madrid and is on the same line as the UNESCO university town of Alcala. However, you need to either walk 20 minutes plus into town or find a bus since there where no taxis at the train station when I arrived. The palace and Guadalajara make a great half day trip since the architecture is so unusual and the churches and the city has a fascinating history which has clear Moor influences.

If your staying in or near Siguenza, Pelegrina is worth a visit, there are castle ruins to walk up to see and stunning views. From the ruins looking down you will see a sloping path, this takes you to a 6 kilometre walk beside the river through the woods, we stopped to watch loads of eagles ad vultures overhead and sitting up high on the rocks. Made a very pleasant afternoon

We took the 5 pm guided tour of the palace and enjoyed it. Our tour guide was a lady who knew everything about the palace and its history. The coffered ceilings in the palace were very impressive.
