Crossing the Ponte Vecchio is always a challenge so this year we decided to stay on the Oltrarno (other side of the Arno) for a change. We are very glad we did and have already lined up plans to return next year. The Pitti Palace is the most well known attraction in the area but there is a lot more things on the rise. Do not stop at the end of the bridge. You will be rewarded well for exploring the Oltrarno!

W spent two weeks in a B & B and chose Barberino Val d'Elsa as it is midway between Siena and Florence, as well as other towns in Tuscany. We had a lovely time, and found our favourite restaurant in the piazza in front of the church. While we were there a medieval festival was held with a re-enactment of the battle between Florence and Siena, performed by citizens of the Commune. A beautiful place and very relaxing indeed.
