Originally a Moorish settlement, developed by the Knights Templar, home to Pope Benedict XIII, the castle has a lot of history and spectacular views of the ocean. Charming narrow, maze-like streets with a lot of souvenir shops and plenty of restaurants to sit down and enjoy local food. The entrance is 5€ - a bargain for the experience.

A wander along the seafront between Torre de San Juan and Hotel Voramar brings you to all the historic Villas, complete with history of each property. Very informative and interesting.

This must be the centerpiece of this beautiful walled city and I'm not sure why it's not given more prominence in the tourist literature for those visiting Valencia. Forget the museum and spend time enjoying the magnificence of this Gothic masterpiece, the ornate altar and rose windows, the majestic pipe organ and the intricate spiral staircase.

Lovely little place. Car park right near it. Maybe a 5 minute (if that) walk up to the castle. Signs dotted about in Spanish, French and English. You can have a wonder around the castle and enter the castle. A lot of history here was rather amazed by it. Or you can park at the bottom of the hill and have a nice hike up. Either way nice to have a choice. Picnic area. Take your rubbish away with you no facilities. Even bigger bonus it’s totally free. Even the car park !

The Church of Sant Pere (St. Peter), known by everyone as the Chapel of Crist de la Mar, stands beside the Port. Traditionally, the Crist de la Mar has always been deeply worshipped by the people of Benicarló. Indeed, legend tells us that in 1650 a felucca arrived on the beaches of Benicarló from which César Cataldo disembarked, carrying with him an image of Christ on the Cross. His arrival was deemed to be prodigal and the miracles performed by the sainted image even more so.
