Museo Del Tessuto

Any port in a storm on a wet afternoon, so we went in to this museum with no high hopes. At the reception desk was a very informative and enthusiastic young woman, who spoke excellent English. The first room contains a collection of very old fabrics, with explanations (in English and Italian), of how they were made. The room is quite dark (to protect the fabrics). Further exhibits describe the history of Prato as a textile producing town, and an interesting display of different textiles produced from animal, vegetable and artificial sources. This may sound dry and of limited general interest, but we left (after the rain had stopped) feeling we had learned something.
