Porvoo (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈporʋoː]; Swedish: Borgå [ˈbɔrɡo]) is a city and a municipality situated on the southern coast of Finland approximately 50 kilometres (30 mi) east of Helsinki. It is one of the six medieval towns in Finland, first mentioned as a city in texts from 14th century. Porvoo is the seat of the Swedish-speaking Diocese of Borgå of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland.

Lovely church that is more middle ages Anglo Saxon than typical finnish countryside church. We were lucky enough that the massive historical organ was being played as we visited... quite magical.

This is a must place, if you visit Porvoo. This shop is crowded with turists and locals as well, as you get to taste most of the goodies before your choose what to buy. All products are made by Brunberg, which is located in Porvoo as well. They sell chocolate and truffels as well as liqourice and their speciality chocolate kisses. You can buy our chocos in paperbag or plastic, your choice.

If you are an art enthusiast and like to paint and draw you should plan to spend some time here. It is such a picturesque town that you can spend hours drawing and painting or photographing the beautiful houses, streets, river, nature, and environs of Porvoo. You can also buy some real art (and even the beautiful vintage Arabia ceramic ware) in a number of small and unique antique shops. I also recommend visiting the “Art Factory Porvoo” to see some interesting exhibition of contemporary Finnish artists. To reach the Factory you walk on the pleasant promenade along the Porvoo River for 10-15’ then cross a bridge until you reach Läntinen Aleksanterinkatu 1.

Really nice contemporary shows with well-written stories about the kovan history, starting from the ice age until 1900s. Able to see both the local history, and how people lived and survived. Recommend!
