The museum features large exhibit halls on the history of recruit training, 20th Century Marine Corps history and the history of Parris Island.
I come from an army family, but I thoroughly enjoyed this museum and appreciated the opportunity to see this museum, base and many Marines. The museum follows the history of the Marines from the Revolutionary War up to present day. There was a fascinating film about basic training, many photos and displays with lots of equipment.and uniforms. You can browse quickly, or if you enjoy reading, you can spend several hours. Be prepared to show identification, vehicle registration and proof of auto insurance to gain access to the base

Winding along the bank of the Beaufort River, the Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park offers lovely paths, stretches of grass, swings and benches from which to experience the charm of the area. On the west end of the park is a small marina and on the east edge of the park is the Woods Memorial Bridge where Forrest Gump ran in that classic film from 1994. Just a short walk south from Bay Street and close to bars and restaurants, the park also has restrooms and parking nearby.

Nice sidetrip from Beaufort. These historic remains are a nice place to wander. You can picture the original church and appreciate the handiwork of the builders. Take bug spray and wear sunscreen

This was the best fishing charter I have ever been on. Captain Tim knew exactly where the fish were and there was never a pause in the action. We had a great time and I would recommend this to anyone. We will definitely be back.

Up until last year the Cypress Wetlands would be full of birds by now. Snowy Egrets, Great White Egrets, Blue Herons, Green Crowned Night Herons, Ibises, Wood Storks, Anhingas and others. We visited the other day and the alligators, turtles and Marsh Hens were there, but only two Great White Herons, two Anhingas and a number of Night Herons. Still a lovely walking k on easy trails.

We were excited to see the "Docent on Duty" sign out on the church door. I was a hot August day and we were greeted enthusiastically by our docent, Rebecca, and invited to come right into the cool sanctuary. She was knowledgeable, entertaining and passionate about this lovely historic gem of a church. Beaufort is a beautiful, historic town and this church has been in the thick of it since Day 1.

We were spending a day around Beaufort, and so we stopped by the boardwalk at the Sands in Port Royal after visiting Parris Island and before heading to downtown Beaufort for lunch. The boardwalk was lovely to walk along, and the view from the top of the observation tower was great!

This Farmers Market is every Saturday from 9- 12. The produce is fresh and beautiful. Everything is here. Fresh bread, cheese, pasta, knife sharpening, plants. All the vendors are very nice. Prices are generally good. Near the Y and the rookery also. Short distance from Beaufort and port royal.

We arrived and the Captain said weather looks clear all day. We will go 10 miles out and then 5 more after that stop. 10 minutes in he calls me up and says that some Thunder Storms are popping up and he will keep an eye on them. We go 10 miles out and fish for 10 minutes and he said the storm is coming we have to head back in. We drive back in and he puts the lines out again for about 20 minutes. He then says the tide is going out and it is getting to shallow. He can try one more spot 3 miles out. We go there for about 20 minutes of fishing and nothing. He drives us back in. That was my 5 hours. I understand that you don't catch fish every time on a charter, but this wasn't even fishing. I could have chartered a small boat for what we did. Also when the fishing is tough the captain has to do something to entertain you. Tell you stories or something. He did nothing. In my opinion he just took my money for a boat ride. My grandpa went on the trip with us. He is 91, was in the WWII in the navy on the pacific and had his own boat to charter fishing trips on Lake Erie. His comment was that captain liked to talk about himself and not listen (that was referencing his 10 minute overview he gave us on himself and the boat as we left the dock)
After we came back in the first time I saw other boats going out and our captain said it was too dangerous. From our boat the weather was great the rest of the time we were on it.
