It was a thrilling experience seeing the ruins of the island and how beautifully nature has taken charge. The highlight was the Guide Ms. Anuradha Rao who is a 4th gen Ross island inhabitant and truly a pleasure to listen to. The deer, peacocks, squirrels and rabbits followed her as she has taken care of them.

Mount Harriet National Park

Reviewed By Aryan2007 - Mumbai, India

Mount Harriet National Park has the third highest peak in Andaman islands. The place has several species of local flora and fauna. The view of the surrounding islands from here is stunning. Its a lovely place for trekking as well. Only thing one has to be careful is that there are a lot of leeches especially after the rains. The park is well known for species like Andaman wild pigs which is an endangered species, saltwater crocodiles, turtles and robber crabs. The park is also a butterfly lovers paradise. On our way up to the Mount Harriet we stopped at a place from where we saw the North island bay and the light house. This spot is special because this is the place from where the picture was clicked which features on the back of India's Rupees Twenty currency note ! Would like to thank our driver for letting us know. The park is named in commemoration of Harriet Tytler, the second wife of Robert Christopher Tytler who was a British army officer, an administrator, naturalist and photographer and was appointed Superintendent of the Convict Settlement at Port Blair in the Andamans from April 1862 to February 1864. Harriet is remembered for her work in documenting the monuments of Delhi and for her notes at the time of the Revolt of 1857 in India. Must visit location.
