What to do and see in Plitvice Lakes National Park, Central Croatia: The Best Walking Tours

January 26, 2022 Trinity Boughner

The bubbling, turquoise crystalline pools of Plitvice Lakes National Park comprise one of Croatia's most popular tourist destinations. Just a two-hour drive from Zagreb, the national park offers 50 acres of forest and lake. In winter, it's a wonderland of frozen waterfalls. In summer, the park is lush with greenery. Wooden walkways and hiking trails traverse the porous karst limestone. This World Heritage Site is a veritable wildlife haven, home to everything from birds to boars and even bears.

Budget Transfer provided a personalized, throughly planned, well thought-out six day trip. They are far more than just a "transfer" company. Dražen (as driver) and Rafaella (as guide) were with me every step of the way, answering questions and being great travel companions. :) Rafaella was knowledgeable on so many subjects: Croatian history, current life in Croatia, and she was truly a pleasant and educational personality throughout all situations. My desires were fully taken into account, and I never felt led to do what the company might benefit from (as is often the case with guided tours) - everything was fully customized to what I wished to do & see. And where I chose to leave the details up to them, they were completely handled, with ease. I requested a tour covering a lot of ground and wanted to see many cities, and that we did! We kept moving and I saw so much more than I ever could have on my own. All the tickets, ferries, and timing was perfectly planned. From my very first emails with Biljana, I was impressed with the organization and thoroughness of Budget Transfer's planning. They went above and beyond to answer all my questions. I highly recommend Budget Transfer Croatia, for any length or type of trip. They can provide just what you're looking for, whatever that may be. And, with a friendly smile and a personal touch!

JC organised a great range of activites for my daughter, my girlfriend and myself. All in the Zadar / Paklencia area. These included Modric's cave, rock climbing in Paklencia National Park, sea Kayaking around Rab and three days hut to hut hiking in the mountaions. He acted as our guide on the hiking, the rest were via other companies. It was our second Croatia holiday organised by JC The activities were each superb, and JC was great company on the hiking trip. We would visit this part of Croatia again, and use JCs services again.

Kristina met us at our hotel lobby for a walking tour of the city. Being the low season, we were lucky to have this as a private tour and all of the sites were much more pleasant as less tourists are around. Kristina provided great information about the sites in excellent English. We sampled cheese at the Dolac market, all farm to table. I’m usually apprehensive about cheese not knowing if it will be pungent tasting (which I don’t like) but these cheeses were so delicious! We also ate at a štrukli restaurant later in the tour, which is one of the best things I have ever eaten! Definitely try the blueberry! Overall we had a great tour with excellent company feeling more like we were learning from a friend. Book this tour and ask for Kristina!

Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by Guide Goran. The guide and tour was extremely good, very flexible (appreciate this!) and for that he deserves a special thanks. We had two great days there, which obviously also added up to the experience. Goran is such a warm personality and highly motivated guide (recommendable!). I truly enjoyed walking the six of us through the area. The scenery was beautiful and it was a relieve to walk in such a quiet and peaceful environment. The atmosphere is so special that it really felt like home to all of us. All respect for Goran who does a great job there; a true sample of excellent tour guide! Many thanks again and I recommend Pathfinder Tours to everyone!
