Visitors to this 500-acre park can view exotic animals on a self-drive or on a group bus tour.
We have so much fun here - this is the best place in Georgia! The park is very well-maintained, the animals are happy and well fed. :). It is such a great place to interact with animals in a secure environment. So different from a zoo. It's become a holiday tradition, can't wait to go back!

President Franklin D. Roosevelt built his "Little White House" in Warm Springs, Georgia, in 1932 while serving as governor of New York.
We completely enjoyed our visit. The staff are very friendly and full of information. The displays are fascinating. I especially enjoyed the adapted wheel chairs and cane collection. The house itself is very well preserved. Relaxing and worthwhile.

A 2,500 acre, year-round horticultural display garden that offers the Virginia Hand Callaway Discovery Center, Birds of Prey Show, Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center, Walking Trails, Ida Cason Callaway Memorial Chapel and Pioneer Log Cabin as well as golf, tennis, fishing, fly fishing and biking. Those looking for some adrenaline will love TreeTop Adventure's zip lines and aerial obstacles. Seasonal events and educational workshops are offered throughout the year. Four lodging types, eight restaurants and a lounge are available.
I have to say that Callaway Gardens truly surprised me and my friends and family how well the trails were manicured and the bike riding trails were outstanding. There was so much to see and do at the Gardens. Enjoy. Just beautiful.

Site of Dowdell's Knob, President Franklin Roosevelt's favorite picnic spot where he hosted family barbecues.
A brilliant day with nothing going on called for a visit to FDR to explore some of its miles of hiking trails. This morning’s excursion was the Wolfden Loop, a 6.7 mile trail with 5 of it along the park’s Pine Mountain Trail.
I got there bright and early coming in from the Warm Springs side of the park & parked at the small lot located at “Mile 18” of the Pine Mountain trail. This is where the Wolfden Loop begins, and signs are posted to make sure that even habitually lost people like me know where I need to go. The Pine Mountain trail is clearly blazed too, so it’s an easy walk through the woods.
The first couple of miles are basically “I’m in the woods” kinds of views, pleasant enough but nothing that really stands out. But as you start to descend into a glen (hmm, is “glen” the right word?) you see a giant loblolly pine and a small stream runs by it. You’ll be crossing back and forth this stream a few times over the next mile or two, sometimes with a boardwalk, sometimes with a little boulder-hopping. The highlight of this part (and the highlight of the whole loop) is a series of small waterfalls. They’re not large – the biggest one might be 5 feet – but they’re pretty and made this an enjoyable time.
At Mile 23 of the Trail, you leave the Pine Mountain trail and take the Beaver Marsh/White Candle Trails to make the Wolfden Loop, um, loop. (The signage notating “Wolfden Loop” disappears at this point oddly enough.) I say Beaver Marsh/White Candle because they intertwine with each other – it’s a little confusing without a map but follow any signs for Beaver Marsh unless its not mentioned – otherwise follow White Candle. Better yet, just pull up a photo of the trail map from the website and disregard this inevitably confusing paragraph. Both trails are enjoyable changes from what you’ve just done – Beaver Marsh takes you through an open field of young pines, and White Candle which concludes the loop gives you some mountain glimpses of the surrounding lands. An enjoyable 2.5 hours that I would call moderate, not only for the distance but for the stream crossing.
I finished up my time in the park by visiting the celebrated Dowdell Knob, because I know that’s what FDR would have wanted me to do. It’s a great lookout into the area, and very peaceful when you’re the only one out there.
A quick drop by the Visitor’s Center before I left, though there isn’t anything like a museum there which is a bit of a surprise given the park’s namesake. But Warm Springs has its share of FDR museums so if you’re interested in the man you can explore more there. Otherwise if it’s a good hike you’re after, you know what to do.

Everything about our geocaching horseback ride was exceptional. Can't recommend it highly enough! Everyone in the organization is friendly and professional. First-rate customer service. They match horses to rider skills and provide clear and useful instructions. The geocache ride is a bit over an hour and you'll get 11 caches from horseback. Horses are so well trained and gentle that you can easily open containers and sign the logs. If you enjoy geocaching, this is a one-of-a-kind experience you will always remember. I'd love to return for a regular ride.

When we first pulled up we thought we were in someones residential driveway, definitely small and quaint. Truly gives you that "relax and make yourself at home" type of feeling. You are allowed to walk around the grounds an may choose to enjoy the beautiful butterfly garden. Wine tasting is excellent. Staff are very informative so if you don't know much about wines, you will be amazed at the information you will walk away with. As for the wines themselves, GREAT selection for such a small winery. You'll get to try the jalapeno wine, sounds terrible but its one of their best sellers. If you buy a few bottles, you'll get a discount.

Golfers seeking a real test of their abilities look forward to playing 7,057 yard, par 72 Mountain View, designed by world-famous golf architect Dick Wilson. Tight, tree-lined fairways are characteristic of this true championship course. Mountain View was home to the PGA Tour's Buick Challenge for more than a dozen years. One of Mountain View's most intriguing holes is the par 5, number 6 where the threat of water looms over both tee and approach shots. This hole was ranked as the fourth most difficult par 5 on the Tour by USA Today.
This was the best part of our trip here. We played both courses and enjoyed them equally. The course is beautifully maintained, and we found it challenging but fun (we're not great golfers). The roughs were high and there are woods everywhere, so we reached a record for lost balls, but it was worth it as the scenery is just great. The staff is friendly and helpful. Even if you're not a golfer, I'd recommend coming along for the ride just to be outside in a beautiful environment.

Over 14 trips to FDR State park and Callaway Gardens. Always a pleasure to visit that part of GA. Be it hiking in FDR or walking the Festival of Lights at Callaway Gardens. Always a new adventure. FDR cabins, Mountain Creek Inn, a nice B&B in town. Stay tuned.

After visiting the Wild Animal Safari we decided to visit Butts Mill Farm and are we ever happy we did.....we spent a most delightful afternoon here...the whole property is just beautiful and full of fun surprising things to do....the lady who sold us the ticket was so pleasant - she went out of her way to make our day great.....My grandchildren did just about everything they have - trampolines, go carts, miniature golf, hay ride, walking, giant checkers....so many spots take great vacation photos! Then the lady mentioned above suggested the swing over the creek....she even took us down! that was so much fun......they are these big swings over a creek that you can dangle your feet in....rocks are slippery! Then we happened to meet the owner who was so friendly (and hard working!!) we had a long chat with him-which made our day even more special.....this is a special place and we were able to make memories to last a lifetime!

Okay, when you're on vacation, at some point you just need fudge and candy. You just do. Mz Brenda owns and runs a great little shop on Main Street that will "fill the bill", with a nice selection of hand-made fudge, candies with a fun little gift shop.
