What a gem! Lovely lake, waterfalls, trees, trails in this quiet county park near Pine Grove, PA. Beautiful views, many benches, and gazebo for concerts. History going back to the 1800s. We spent a delightful July 4th walking, picnic and listening to the community band. A great find.

I visited for a Barnstormer Air Show. The museum has a very nice collection of antique aircraft and replicas covering World War I through the 1930's. This is a worthwhile stop if you are visiting the area.

A nice temple, for Pushtimarg followers. Shreenathji is the swaroop of the God here. It's got a big area, you could make a weekend out of it. You can choose to do some seva (read help serve the devotees lunch). Love the prasad (lunch) you get here. The temple food has it's own taste that remains unparalleled.

Swatara State Park

Reviewed By Mosslady53 - Myerstown, Pennsylvania

The local folks will know this Trail as Old State Road. Several years ago, it was repaired and renamed Bear Hole Trail as Swatara State Park was developed. This Trail is open to vehicles the 2nd Friday and Saturday of each month. It is also open the 4th Friday and Saturday in March, April, September and October. It is a one way drive and you enter at the Swope's Valley Road Trailhead and exit at Lickdale. Cars can easily manage the road, although you will share it with hikers and horseback riders. Today was a lovely day for the drive and the leaves were spectacular! Along the route is the fossil pit, the Bordner Cabin, and if you look close, some Union Canal locks. We try to drive through at least once a year in the Fall.

Camp-A-While Campground

Reviewed By DjrayBaucum - Middleport, Pennsylvania

I was here for the first time on 7/18/14 and enjoyed it very much.If your looking for a cozy campsite with a wilderness look, then this is the place. It's located in the side of a mountain just 2 miles off I-81. Hiking trails, pool, spacious tent sites and very friendly staff. If your looking for a more commercial type site with lots of people buzzing around at night and lots of activities then this is not the place for you. This place is quiet,"except for a few cars on highway which you may not even hear".You really get the feel of being in the mountains. In fact you are on the side of a mountain about halfway down. Looking for a super market go in into the town Valley View which is the next town after Hegins which is about 5 miles. My only complaint is riding our bikes, the place is hilly so you get a real workout. Kids conplained since they had to push thier bikes back to the tent site.

D.G. Yuengling and Son Brewery

It was the year 1829 when Americans were getting used to their newly elected president, Andrew Jackson, that 23-year old David G. Yuengling, an immigrant from Wurttemberg, Germany, settled in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, and started a brewery. Originally named the Eagle Brewery, today the Yuengling pride, symbolic of the American Eagle. Each Yuengling label bears the eagle trademark chosen by young David Yuengling so long ago. Previously located on Centre Street, current site of Pottsville's after only two years of operation. A new brewery was then constructed on Mahantongo Street, where operations continue today. The brewery remains family operated by Richard "Dick" Yuengling, Jr. and his daughters are being groomed as the sixth generation.

Beer Historified. I know, that is not a word but I think it sums up well. There is a history to this brewery and it is on the National Historic Registry. The tour runs several times a day, is free and my guide was obviously enjoying the job so it was fun. It took about an hour and you get to see “The Cave,” the bottling line and lots more. Afterwards, I had to look up “Sternenwirth” for a bit more history. You might like to also. Great inside peek at how they have done it for years. You get samples at the END of the tour…so anticipate that part. If you can swing it, definitely worth the couple of hours of time to find the brewery, park on the streets and take it. Great fun.

So happy to see that this special place is still open and running. Such a cool place for kids. Very affordable, and you must see the nighttime show. Use to visit there as a child and was thrilled to be able to take my children there. Free parking and they offer a military discount. My daughter loved pushing different buttons that moved trains or did other things. If you take the time to read the signs, it is also educational. Extremely happy with our overall experience there.

Rausch Creek Off-Road Park

Reviewed By AJent912 - Boston, Massachusetts

If you own a Jeep and like to take it off-road in any capacity, this is THE place to visit in the upper east of states. It is also listed amongst the official off-road parks as supported by the official Jeep brand. (See Jeep Badge of Honor)

This park has room for any skill level whether your Jeep is stock -unmodified- or heavily armored and looking for an adrenaline rush. With hundreds of acres, theres room for just about anyone.

The site offers primitive camping and as such would be an excellent retreat with a Jeep club or friends and family.

I spent 3 days in the park and camped on site. With my Jeep being limited in its modifications, I was still able to thoroughly challenge and enjoy myself. The daily fee of $40 is a small price to pay to have hours and hours of fun. If it is your first time visiting, a annual membership will cost you just $15 and will allow you to visit the park over and over in the course of a year.

If you're at all interested in off-roading, check this place out!

The Blue Mountain Golf Course

Reviewed By dpm3356 - Fairfield, Connecticut

The Blue Mountain Golf Course is beautifully laid out. Easy to get to being located within minutes of Interstate 78 & Route 22. It's picturesque views will embrace you as you play. Championship quality greens. The fairways are wide with minimal trees to hinder play. A few water traps, but not insurmountable. Sand traps never were an issue. Sporting four sets of tees, this challenging course offers players of every ability level to enjoy the game.
Amenities include, a driving range and a chipping and putting green to loosen you up before you hit the tees. The Pro Shop is average with a variety of golf items. The snack bar is adequate to grab something between the front and back nine. Greens fees with carts are reasonable. You can reserve tee times 1-2 weeks in advance. Appears that many local tournaments are played here.
Ended up playing here for the first time after Monroe Valley closed in July 2016. This is a much nicer place.
