The Illinois Rural Heritage Museum is a hidden gem. OK, that term is thrown around a lot, but this place is fascinating and shouldn’t be missed. Hats off to Charlie and Mary Greer, whose passion for the past is what drives the museum. We were there two weeks ago during their Christmas open house. Lots of visitors of all ages appreciated how life would have been in decades past. Grocery shopping, hardware, medical, dental, postal services, military, agriculture, etc. It all makes one appreciate...and perhaps minimize...the niceties of modern life. Visit the museum, meet the Greers, and you’ll leave with a better perspective on life as it was in many rural communities.
