The name of the village Pietramurata refers to a stone farmstead: in fact rural houses in the area were built in stone near a small walled fortress. On the summit of the village the Torre di Guaita (XVI century) can be found, an irregular square construction in rough stone (now without roof), built on a limestone rock. Guaita is a medieval term meaning both “”guard” and an autonomous organization with land property. This explains why the tower represented not just the farmstead but also the boundary between the Madruzzo and the County of the Arco.
