Steep two-mile trail that leads to the top of Picacho Peak, with a rapid gain of 900 feet elevation in the last half mile.
A challenging 3.2 mile hike where you hike up, then descend quite a distance, and ascend back up plus more. The views are worth it, but be sure to bring pletny of water and gloves!

This 3.1-mile hiking trail to the top of Picacho peak has a moderate to difficult rating.
The sunset trail is an alternate way to summit Picacho Peak or just as a nice 2 mile out and back. It will take you to the backside of Picacho peak where you will go up some switchbacks and then to the harder cable sections of the hike to the top. You can stay low and enjoy the relatively easy walking among saguaro cacti and other desert plants. It has some slight up and downs but nothing too terrible.

Outdoor venue with fresh air. Upclose encounters with lots of different animals including Ostrich, Deer, Lorikeets, Stingrays and so many more! Voted Top Ten Roadside Attractions in the US. Everyone is a kid here! Gift shop on premises.
Our group spent the whole day enjoying the ostriches, bunnies, donkeys, goats, sheep, birds, and stingrays at the Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch. The grounds were very clean and the animals were a joy to be around, feed, and talk to. The ostriches were very friendly to the point of taking off our hats if we were feeding their neighbor. Very funny! All the animals appeared to be in good health and happy. Grounds were immaculate. Kudos to their crews. The employees were friendly and answered all our questions.

Visitors traveling along I-10 in southern Arizona can’t miss the prominent 1,500-foot peak of Picacho Peak State Park. Enjoy the view as you hike the trails that wind up the peak and, often in the spring, overlook a sea of wildflowers. The park and surrounding area are known for its unique geological significance, outstanding and varied desert growth, and historical importance. The unique shape has been used as a landmark by travelers since prehistoric times. One of the first recordings was in the 1700s by the Anza Expedition as it passed through the area. The park offers a visitor center with exhibits and a park store, a playground, historical markers, a campground and picnic areas. Many hiking trails traverse the desert landscape and offer hikers both scenic and challenging hikes. Hike prepared and know your limits. Bring plenty of food and water and wear proper footwear. Enjoy the beauty of the desert and the amazing views.
Needed a break from our ride up north and decided to stop at the park. To our delight, it was a perfect place to stop, have our picnic lunch, and stretch our legs a bit. There are several shelters with picnic tables, clean restrooms, a small play area for children, and hiking trails to the top of the mountain from where you can view a great deal of the park which was in full bloom with beautiful wildflowers. You can see clear to the highway from top of the mountain. Definitely worth the stop.

Being the Civil War nerds that we are, we had to stop at this historic site. It was so neat to see what is left of the battlefield. The views of what was a landmark for the Butterfield Stagecoach lines that ran from Tucson to Phoenix, across the hwy. is awesome. The monuments and informational signs really put it into perspective. The state park, which it is inside of, is a nice camping area with plenty of hiking trails to follow. Recommend to any CW history nerd.
