What to do and see in Pensacola, Florida (FL): The Best Things to do for Honeymoon

January 17, 2022 Roseanne Arnett

If you're looking for some great Florida beaches but aren't necessarily interested in a mega-resort or theme park atmosphere, Pensacola might just be the place for your perfect weekend. Home to Gulf Islands National Seashore, the city offers some of the best fishing and boating in the area. Inland, canoeing enthusiasts won't want to miss the beauty of the Blackwater River. Closer to town, the city has a proud military heritage, which can be seen at attractions like the National Museum of Naval Aviation and the Pensacola Naval Air Station.

Santa Rosa Island

Pensacola Beach is the main attraction on this island.

The drive between Navarre Beach and Pensacola Beach is a wonderful and restful cruise along the coast. Pull over into the access points and you have miles of white sand and green water with hardly any people. If people are what you want, go to Pensacola Beach or Navarre Beach. For history.... Fort Pickens is your place. Santa Rosa Island is a great place to get away

Gulf Islands

A historical area with beautiful beaches.

The BEST beaches in the state as far as I am concerned. Plenty of parking, clear water and miles of gulf to walk or swim. There was plenty of room to social distance. If you come in from downtown Pensacola you will be charged $1 to get across the bridge.

Pensacola Lighthouse & Maritime Museum

NOTICE TO GUESTS: We are located on Naval Air Station Pensacola. NAS Pensacola is currently open only to current DoD ID card holders and certain Veterans Health Identification Card holders. Unless sponsored through the Trusted Traveler program, no civilians will be granted access onto the base until further notice, and thus will not be able to access the Lighthouse. The Best View in Town! Climb 177 steps up the historic Pensacola Lighthouse for one of the most beautiful views on the Gulf Coast. Built in 1859, the lighthouse is located on board NAS Pensacola. The tower offers stunning views of Pensacola Bay, the Pensacola skyline, and the historic Navy Yard.

This is a must see and do in Pensacola. The lighthouse, keeper's house, and gift shop are well worth the effort to visit. And if one has the courage, a climb to the top of the lighthouse is offered. Beware, it is 19 stories tall. The museum is quite extensive and is house in the keeper's house. This is the tallest lighthouse on Florida's Gulf Coast. It is located on the Pensacola Naval Air Station, so visitors must present two forms of ID to enter.

Johnson Beach

We were pleased to find this nice beach near Big Lagoon State Park, where there is lots of residual damage from Hurricane Sally in September 2020. It was free entry for us because we are OLD and have a lifetime National Parks pass. Otherwise you have to pay at the gate. We rode our bikes past the pavilion where the road is open only to foot and bike travel. You can have your own section of beach out there! If you time it right, the Blue Angels might fly overhead.
