Claude was prompt in picking us up from our hotel in Lille and then took us to see the final resting places of two of our family members, who were both killed in 1918. He was very flexible and worked in with our plans to visit these two graves at two different war cemeteries. He then took us around numerous battlefield sites and war cemeteries, involving New Zealanders, and his knowledge was first class. For that special day in connecting with those special soldiers, contact Claude and he will make it happen.

My wife and I did this tour with Claude. Two points to put peoples minds at ease. First, is that he was on time and his vehicle was very safe, comfortable and reliable. He went through great lengths to keep us on time to what was a very full-day schedule. Second, is his knowledge about the region and the war itself. He knows the full-background and history of the great war and his knowledge of the military regiments is outstanding (Canadian, British, German, Australian, French, etc). In particular, I was interested in the history of the PPCLI in the region and was not disappointed. His family has lived in the region for generations and this brings a personal touch to the the tour. We were not disappointed.

Claude was excellent, picked the two of us up in Lille right on time. He his very knowledgeable and explained all facets and the sequence of the battles that took place. Had a very nice lunch and the entire day was so informative. I learned so much, it meant so much to us. I would recommend Claude anytime. We ended our day at the Menin gate and experienced the very moving daily remembrance ceremony there, in Ypres. Excellent.

Small groups led by a Cathar expert - historian and author James McDonald. You will visit sites associated with the Cathars and learn about their origins, beliefs and history. One minute you will be noting the spot where a Crusade leader fell, and the next immersed in the grand sweep of European history. James brings to life the medieval personalities - Saint Dominic, the man behind the founding of the first papal Inquisition; the ambitious Simon de Montfort; the tragic Raymond-Roger Trencavel; the irrepressible Count of Foix, and many others.    You simply will not find either this depth of knowledge or this breadth of knowledge about Catharism anywhere else. Our tours are all in English. They are not scripted and unlimited time is always allowed for questions.

We spent a week with James McDonald and 6 other travellers exploring the Cathar Country and learning about who these incredible people were. James is an absolute font of knowledge about everything to do with the life and demise of these fascinating people. We travelled to Toulouse where we started off on an incredible adventure. A city tour for introduction a fabulous lunch in the old square. From here we met Alison our driver / guide and travelled to Quillan in a very nice bus. A charming little town full of nice restaurants to Hotel La Chaumiere. Lovely rooms excellent restaurant very friendly staff. We averaged 3/4 sites of interest a day interspersed with tutorials from James delicious lunches in small local cafes with excellent food and wine. Day 3 we also went on a wine tour to La Louviere a beautiful vineyard and to Limoux to taste Blanquette de Limoux. The sites of Montsegur, The Abbey of Fontfroide, Puivert, Arques, were compelling even more so with James commentary on every aspect of their place in this Cathar story. We spent a day free in Carcassonne to explore the Cite, Bastide and the beautiful Canal de Midi. We had such a good informative fun trip. Many thanks also for the dinners in Chateau St Ferriol with the McDonald family. I am so pleased that the Story and History of The Cathar people will be carried forward in the safe hands of James McDonald and Cathar Country Tours. Many Thanks James

Hands down the BEST tour I have ever taken! An absolutely FANTASTIC day!! I’ve lived and travelled all over the globe (North America; Caribbean Europe; Africa; Middle East) and I can honestly say “The Battle of the Somme Guided Day Tour from Arras” was by far the best experience I have ever had. My guide for the day (Jackie) was a star! Knowledgeable; interesting; engaging; personable; Jackie demonstrated a genuine passion for the subject matter. Thank you for an unforgettably amazing day.
