Margarita has opened again and it was a delight to make an appointment to view her huge range of work; there really is something for everyone here, and our teenage son was impressed with the variety of media, subject and style. She is charming and her gallery is intimate and cosy. We bought a Japanese woodcut of St Kilda. We’ll treasure it.

This gallery is perched above the rocky shore of the Bays of Harris, with views across The Minch to Skye, reached along a drive which winds through delightful gardens. Welcome to The Mission House Studio, the studioand gallery of Beka Globe - Photographer and Nickolai Globe - Ceramic Artist. In the studio, overlooking the desolate and stunning rocky landscape of Harris, Beka’s stark photographs float off the stone walls, suspended by high tensile wires. Nickolai’s ceramics range from functional stoneware to abstract sculptural work. They are displayed on furniture, fashioned from the old timbers and reclaimed materials from the Church conversion. Music reverberates through the space. The photographic work of Beka Globe, a traditionally trained photographer, captures the both the subtle and harsh elements of the Hebridean landscape. Finding an emotive vastness, depth and simplicity, her silent images are moving, stirring a particular sense of place. The ceramic works of Nickolai Globe are influenced directly by the environment of the rugged North West. Drawing from elements of Zen and the unpredictable, his work reflects rather than emulates nature.
Both artists’ work really make you look again at the landscape around you and then when you are home makes you feel as if you are back in Harris

This is an amazing little shop that is well worth the detour to reach it! The owner and staff are fantastic and truly enjoy what they do and it shows in their products. We were warmly greeted, the smell of the shop was heavenly and she had samples out that you could smell...We received an impromptu tour of the soap-making facility (which was fascinating), were greeted by their lovely whippet puppy (official greeter), and enjoyed perusing the shop and all of it's lovely soap products! We bought quite a bundle and the soaps are fabulous! Loverly lather, fragrance and they last. While you can buy these soaps in several of the museums around the island, I highly recommend that you take time to stop at the shop itself! It's worth it!! :)

Love this gallery. Full of beautiful imaginative handmade glass and embroidery items made by Doug and Kate on Harris. I have quite a few items now, they are so colourful and really well made. The gallery is in a beautiful setting and the views are breathtaking x They also have lovely face book and instagram pages where Kate posts pics and videos of their beautiful island. Inspired by the Atlantic coastline, I create unique stoneware ceramic sculptures and vessels from my Hebridean home on the Isle of North Uist. Natural beach-weathered sea fragments, abandoned at the high-tide line, provide some of the natural textures captured on the surface of the clay. Some pieces of work are enriched with locally gathered beach sands and rock sediments, which once fired in the kiln, transforms into rich warm chestnut tones, creating a truly unique Hebridean gift. The Gallery also exhibits original art works from several North Uist artists.
