Established in 1982, H2Outfitters has evolved from a whitewater instructional center to a powerhouse of sea kayak instruction on the East Coast. Located in Maine, it's a small company with a dedicated staff who not only teach but guide and lead trips up and down the Eastern seaboard, the Canadian Maritimes, and overseas as well. International destinations include Italy, Iceland, Ireland, Belize, Costa Rica, the Bahamas, and Japan. In fact, H2Outfitters has been recognized by National Geographic Adventure magazine for the two consecutive years that they selected "The Best Adventure Travel Companies on Earth", 2008 & 2009. H2O also offers stand up paddleboard, "SUP", instruction and, rentals for both boards and sea kayaks at it's magical location between Orr's and Bailey Islands, just 13 miles off of coastal route 1 in Maine. Located 2.5 hours from Boston and 6 hours from NYC, it's a convenient destination for a weekend get-a-way or a longer stay. The Harpswell Islands region offers an authentic "taste of Maine" with it's working fishing communities, clear waters, and multitude of islands just offshore. Lot's of history here too, from Harriet Beecher Stowe to Admiral Peary, there are many stories to tell. Wildlife abounds, with harbor seals, loons, bald eagles, and even the wayward porpoise or whale providing the live entertainment at water's eye level! H2O's signature programs include 3 hour tours, day tours and the ever popular sunset excursions around the islands. Some interesting overnight trips can be arranged from island camping adventures to inn-to-inn paddling trips...serious fun! Owners Cathy Piffath and Jeff Cooper have international reputations of excellence and inspire their staff to be the very best at what they do...please join the H2Outfitters team for a wonderful paddling experience.

I did both trails on two separate visits. They can be a bit challenging in a few spots, but for the average hiker and dogs it should be no problem. There are roots to watch out for along the path and a couple, short steep spots. Lots of nice places to stop and view the water ways. We did see one seal. There were other cars in the lot, but I never encountered anyone on the trails. It was a nice quiet way to spend an hour walking my dogs in the morning during our vacation. Harpswell has many dog friendly places to walk and explore.
This Orr's Island shop sells kayaks.
