It is located on the northern part of the Campidano plain. It was established as the provincial capital on 16 July 1974. As of December 2010, the city had 32,165 inhabitants.

Our visit to the Temple Wine Bar during our visit to Oristano turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. This local spot was cozy and friendly, with a wide selection of wines and mixed drinks. The owner personally recommended two local wines that we ended up liking so much that we took a few bottles with us. The background music at least during our visit was American country, which was unique from our time touring Italy. We really enjoyed our visit, the friendliness of the owner and his staff, and of course the wines. Definitely recommend you stop in if you're in Oristano.

Leaving the pedestrian streets on your way down from piazza Roma, you’ll arrive at the cathedral and the Piazza Duomo. The cathedral is a large, baroque monument which rests on a well maintained square. The neighbouring church buildings and convent are testament to Oristano’s rich architectural past.

The medieval walls make Oristano so a beautiful city to visit with the Towers with the beautiful squares and the streets with shops, restaurants and bars.
