Looking for a unique way to enjoy Sint Maarten. Well, now you're found it... You will embark on an amazing adventure through the famous Orient Bay. Watersport La Playa offers you parasail, jetski anf much more... For all ages, come enjoy our safe and fun activities. We know that next time you think of Sint Maarten, and especially Orient Bay, you'll think of your jet ski ride and parasailing tour, and the day you had the time of your life .
This was my second time parasailing. My first time was in Grand Cayman and was a much better experience. Note that due to the setup of this operation, it is not possible for you to participate in this activity without getting wet. You must walk through waist deep water to a jet ski. They then take you by a jet ski to a small boat. The water was very choppy with waves making it impossible to get to the boat without getting fully drenched. My previous experience with parasailing in Grand Cayman, I entered onto a larger boat from a dry dock and remained dry during the duration of the activity, which is my preference. The man operating the boat seemed very competent, but he was very rude and he "man handled" us. Instead of telling us what he wanted us to do, he just physically jerked us around and moved us into the position he wanted us. He yelled if we moved or touched anything. We appreciate safety, but his rudeness was uninvited and kind of tainted the experience. The gentleman that took our reservation and our payment was friendly and warm, as was the assistant on the boat.

Still a beautiful area and nice beach but the hurricane damage is still very evident. The abandoned buildings and burned debris is all around. The beach was still pretty busy with both clothed and nude patrons, much to my teens horror!! Haha If you are after a beach scene and small bar like venue, Orient Beach can still offer that!

Husband and I took the Tintamarre cruise on July 7. Phillippe and his lovely young assistant named Cherie greeted us and two other couples at Papagayo. They loaded us up in the dingy to board the catamaran. Niko was there to assist with operations while friendly Cherie served us some great drinks (we had the rum punch). We were soon at Tintamarre where we arrived via dingy and explored the island, snorkeled, sunbathed, and had all you can drink beer, punch, and water in a cooler provided. We boarded the vessel around 1 for lunch; I chose to swim to it which was fun. The champagne was excellent and steaks were just delicious. Wine accompanied the meal and we had this awesome brownie dessert. We returned to the island for another couple hours and we were pretty much worn out and saw all we needed to see when it was time to leave. More drinks were offered by Cherie on the way back which we declined.....we were beat!
It IS a long day, but it's all good fun. The island was gorgeous and the water calm and clear to hang out in or snorkel. Phillippe is a skilled captain and he and Niko work well together. Cherie is a sweetheart and hard worker. Thanks to everyone on the Tiko Tiko!

So many fun things to do at this pretty beach! We planned on parasailing a couple of months in advance. On the day of we added a jet ski rental and had a blast. Saw people fly boarding and jumping out on the water trampolines. The guys who worked here were very friendly and accommodating. We also rented a pair of beach chairs and an umbrella here for $20 for the entire day. There's also a bar and restaurant here as well. This was all very nice as we were here on a cruise and didn't have anything to bring to beach besides ourselves.

Kiteschool , windsurfing school and sailing school - kite surf , windsurf, hobie cat, kayak, Surfing, stand up paddle board rental and tours - Also motor boat (cap camarat) rental and sailboats rental - Excursions to Anguilla and St Barth aboard catamaran - Hotel packages available
They were nice enough, the equipment was good, and I understood their English pretty well. They tried, really. The main problem is that kite Surfing is simply not something you learn on vacation. I found out that it takes a very long time just to get the basics, like days or weeks. I feel quite foolish that I paid so much for a 2 hour lesson and never actually got on the board. I got yanked out of the boat a couple of times, I was dragged thru the water a lot, I struggled mightily to re-launch the kite once it was down, but never actually got on the board. I am fairly athletic, ex swimmer and a beach person so I thought this would be right up my alley. I left exhausted and scraped up and disappointed that I spent so much. I should have allocated time and money elsewhere.

Kitesurfing , windsurfing, stand up paddle , sailing school - Boat rental and boat tours - Cruise to Anguilla, St BArthelemy
We rented from Vela for five days in early December and were fortunate to experience contant winds above 20 knots. The wind at Orient Beach blows either on-shore or 45 degrees to the beach. In higher wind the surf break can be three to four foot high waves which make it difficult to launch. However, in those conditions the staff would either take the gear past the main breakers for water starting or would leave the gear on a buoy about 25 meters off shore. Emanual a Tom on the staff were fantastic, and provided tips on where to catch the best swell, the best reaches and recommended the appropriate gear for the sailers experience and daily conditions.
In higher winds this is not a beginners place. For those times save yourself the trouble and go to Galleon Bay around the corner where Fantastic has rental boards. For windy conditions and experienced sailors, Orient Bay is as good as Maui or the Gorge. The swell outside can reach 20 feet of slightly cresting waves with no shallow reef to get hurt on. The only limitation was that there was a brief shortage of high wind gear which we understand was due to a delayed shipment. During light winds, you sail on large gear (120-140 liter boards w 6.5 meter or larger sails) which is also fun, but may sit awhile while the wind comes and goes. The staff, the white sand, clear water and overall conditions make Vela St. Martin well worth the experience. Just check the wind before you go and try to select a week with +18 knot conditions. There were several sailors that broke masts launching or beaching in the high surf, but Vela was very understanding and provided replacement gear immediately. After several crashes in the surf, we just tied the uphaul around one of the off-shore buoys and left it there while we rested or ate lunch. Upon return, all we had to do was swim out to the gear, water start and sail till we got sea sick. Absolutely wonderful sailing!
Lastly, we did bring shorty wetsuits and full gear (harness, booties, helmets, vests, etc...) but should have left it at home. The water there is very warm! Even though we sailed in several rain squalls we never were cold or even chilled. (This may be due to the fact that we normally sail cold water in the States-Colorado.) Vela has full supply of the above mentioned gear and I would only take a rash guard and board shorts next time.
We also plan to take kite boarding lessons there next year. We met on young woman who had her first kite lesson at Vela and she loved it. She too was taken off-shore and allowed to kite/drift back on-shore, but was fortunate to also have constant moderate winds (+15 knots) which kept the kite aloft with little hassel. Kite boarding is not allowed on the calmer, Galleon bay side.
