What to do and see in Oregon Coast, Oregon Coast: The Best Golf Courses

March 29, 2022 Lean Nau

The Southern Oregon coast is home to isolated beaches, rugged cliffs with breathtaking views of the Pacific and quaint seaside towns. If you stay in the Bay Area, go whale watching at Coos Bay or explore the region on a bike or a hike along the coastline. Antique shoppers will want to explore old town Bandon while golfers hit the links at the world-renowned Bandon Dunes golf course. And don’t forget to bring your fishing gear – you’ll want to cast for salmon and other Pacific Northwest fish at Gold Beach, one of the region’s top fishing spots.

The Central Oregon Coast is a great place for fishing, clamming, hiking, golfing and other outdoor activities. Take the kids and visit the Sea Lion Caves near Florence, the world’s largest. Head up to Newport for a view of the state’s second-tallest lighthouse and shopping in this seaside town popular with vacationers for the last century. Go fly a kite on the beach in Lincoln City, kite capital of the world.

The Northern Oregon Coast offers a relaxing way to enjoy the region. A stay in the scenic town of Astoria on the Washington border will allow you to explore the western edge of the Lewis and Clark trail, with views of the Columbia River and the Pacific. Walk the sandy beaches in Seaside and Cannon Beach and then grab saltwater taffy and other treats while shopping these seaside towns.

Bandon Dunes Golf Resort

New classic golf course built high above the Pacific.

This is golf heaven on earth. Five 18 hole immaculate golf courses plus a 13 hole par three plus a free par three course. We stayed at the lodge overlooking the golf course. There are many restaurants within the resort the food was incredible every time we ate. Every single employee offered incredible service. If you are a dedicated golfer I cannot recommend this experience enough.

Salishan Golf Links

At Salishan Golf Links, golf means so much more than 18 holes. It’s an experience to be savored and remembered. With old-growth timber or seaside bluffs at every turn, each hole provides a spectacular backdrop and a unique challenge. The golf course reopened in June, 2004 after a multimillion-dollar restoration overseen by Oregon golf legend and PGA Tour Pro Peter Jacobsen and his design firm, Jacobsen-Hardy Golf Design. The restoration preserves the layout and the spirit of Salishan’s fabled links while enhancing playability and opening the golf course to captivating ocean views.

I don't know who posted the photo, but that is exactly what it looks like. I've only golfed here three times this year, but I've been impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff as well as the beauty of the course. My only suggestion would be that they make the holes bigger...

Bandon Crossings Golf Course

Some land is made is made for golf. Bandon, Oregon is one of those places, and the creation of Bandon Crossings has added another great golfing option to the area. Included in Golf Magazine's Top 10 new golf courses for 2007, chosen by Golfweek as one of Oregon's Best Places to Play in 2008, and listed by the PGA Travel Magazine as a Favorite Hidden Gem in 2009, it has already won national acclaim.

My family of four two adults, two teenage girls on vacation in Bandon: We are not all great golfers. Two were good. The young man at the counter was super nice and helpful. We made reservations a day in advance in person. On the 2nd hole the manager came out and moved us to the back end of the course which was perfect so we could play without bothering anyone. In addition to that he gave us two buckets of range balls. Even though it was not his fault we were not great golfers, he did everything he could to accommodate us and the great golfers. We had a really good time, and could not have been treated better. We aren't fancy people, but we saved up and this was a real treat for us.

Ocean Dunes Golf Links

It’s a crisp, dewy morning on the Oregon Coast, a perfect day to spend at Ocean Dunes Golf Links. The smell of fresh cut grass wafts up as you look down at an immaculately white golf ball resting on the tee. You take a breath, pulling your arms back, and swing through, following the ball with your gaze as it soars out over a gorgeous expanse of green between swaths of windswept Coastal forest. The ball disappears in the sunshine; now is the moment of truth. If today’s your day you’ll watch that little ball drop right down onto the green (or even right into the hole!); if not, you might hear the dreaded and familiar “plop.” Whether you’re on your game or not, the setting is so beautiful, you’ll have a great time even if you land your ball into a sand trap or water hazard. You may even have the time of your life, and become one of our hole-in-one hall of famers. Welcome to Ocean Dunes Golf Links Looking to do some golfing on the central Oregon Coast? Look no further than Ocean Dunes Golf Links. Located in Florence, this course is a favorite for locals and travelers alike. With a unique course layout, breathtaking scenery, and a few unexpected turns here and there, visitors will enjoy a challenging and exhilarating golf experience. Complete with a clubhouse with snack bar, 18 fun and exciting holes, carts available for rental, and a vista of dunes, mountains and forests, your experience at Ocean Dunes Golf Links will be unlike any other.

This is a great layout in a beautiful coastal dune and forest environment. It had just rained hard overnight, but conditions were still amazingly good from tee to green. The pines lining the fairways on the front nine look like grown up versions of the Monterey shore pines and contribute to the sense that you're lucky to be in a special spot, playing a fun game under great conditions. To top it off I can afford to come and play whenever I'm on a coast trip without using up my whole trip budget. Staff are very helpful and attentive and practice facilities are convenient as well.
