Built under Emperor Augustus in the 1st century AD, the Roman Theatre of Orange experienced a real rebirth in 2003, transporting visitors back to Imperial Rome. The new tour and the free audioguide in seven languages tell visitors about the shows and social life in the Provencal city during Roman times. In the new projection room, the film, with computer-generated images and reconstructions of shows, retraces the history of the Roman Theatre of Orange.

We arrived there and at first it was not clear to us where to go. After 15 minutes a friendly man showed up. He was guiding a small group of people that had been blending some wine. The wine tastry after that was very relaxed, we really felt free to make our own choices on what to buy. The man spoke English very well. We recommend this as a place to go for a relaxed wine tastry.

This is a lovely monument. You can get right up to it and touch it. Some restoration/conservation has been done so you can appreciate the scale and the detail of the arch. There is parking on the opposite side of the road and crosswalks. There is enough space around the monument that you can observe it from all angles. We were the only ones there.
