Oldmeldrum (commonly known as Meldrum) is a village and parish in the Formartine area of Aberdeenshire, not far from Inverurie in North East Scotland. With a population of around 2,000, Oldmeldrum falls within Scotland's top 300 centres of population. Oldmeldrum is home to one of the oldest whisky distilleries in Scotland, Glen Garioch, which was built in 1797. My father and I enjoyed the most fantastic visit with Glen Garioch on their new Founders Tour. It covered history, fine whisky, beautiful views and gourmet food. We were taken to several unique viewpoints, in the Glen Garioch mini bus, to learn about the landscape and special aspects of Oldmeldrum and the founders of GG which contribute to making Glen Garioch so unique. At each stop we enjoyed a nip of something special along side a tasty gourmet delight of the area. The tour included a delicious tasting lunch at Meldrum House Hotel of dishes prepared using Glen Garioch and accompanied by the same. This tour is a true example of how you learn about the history and culture of an area through it's food and drink. I will happily repeat this tour one day. Highly recommended.

Hoodles Playbarn on the outskirts of Oldmeldrum offers a unique fun experience for children and a relaxing atmosphere for parents and carers. The Playbarn features a safe, enclosed indoor playframe and coffee shop facilities offering quality food and beverages for both children and adults. There is also an enclosed courtyard play area where customers can enjoy some fresh air at no extra charge. The Soft Playframe is suitable for 0 to 12 years with a height restriction of 4ft 9in (145cm) tall. There is a 0-2 years area with a small slide, pvc shapes, pvc puzzle pieces and some toys to play with. This is an enclosed area with a gate at the side to keep older children out and smaller children in. The main soft play area has 2 slides and a ball swing. Adults are allowed in with the children, however, may be asked to vacate the main area during our busy times. Our entrance fees are as follows: Peak times Under 1's free, 1-2 £4.00, 2+ £5.00. Off Peak - Under 1's free, 1-2 £3.50, 2+ £4.25
